Can I use fuel stabilizer in advance?

When the season is over I usually put some fuel stabilizer in the tank run it a few minutes and then spray fogging oil in the carbs until the engine chokes.

Now since I don't know when the season ends, and I don't have daily acess to my sled I wonder if excessive amounts of stabilizer that have not reacted ( I assume it reacts with the fuel and need a little time to do so) is harmful to the engine.

In short can I put the stabilizer in what I believe to be the last tank of the season and without waiting, just ride around as usual without it harming the engine?
 
Yes of course you can! When it comes time it ride again next winter you ride around on what's left right? I would just not put as much in as u would to summerize it. Eather that or just run it out of gas.
 
when there is around 1 or 2 gallons left,add a couple capfuls of ATF and mix in the gas and run motor.This will actually do a good job cleaning and coating the motor.I would still fog at the same time for added insurance.
 
Why not just run a good grade 2 cycle, stable and fog it? I know atf is a light enough oil that it won't harm anything but why that and not fogger? What's so good about atf? Not criticizing just questioning lol
 
atf is awesome..talk to Gary nosboy...has detergents ,keeps everything clean,carbs,PV's..Unplug your gas line and stick it in atf and let it suck it in..it will coat everything.and smoke as hell...lol
 
Dont know about your fuel quality over there (ethanol) but here it SUCKS! I clean carbs preseason and drain tank anyways. I think most "stabilizers" are a waste of money for summer season, nothing out there will keep fuel "good" for 6+ months.
 
no ethanol in Premium here..that is all I use..a little more money for peace of mind.My carbs are always clean,never have issues with them.I also run with Fitch Fuel Catalyst in my tanks..suposed to keep fuel fresh and ups the octane a few numbers..
 
Thanks for the answers as for fuel we have 10% ethanol but there is talk about increasing it to 15. Reason I ask is that I don't know how much I'll ride before season is over though it won't be much so I just wanted to top off the tank, put in stabilizer so when I did the last ride of the season I'd just have to park it, fog it and store it.
 
I always run the green marine sta-bil all season at the recommended rate for normal use. I like the idea of it always being in there incase I get some bad gas with water or have condensation in the tank between fill ups

Started doing the same this year myself. Supposed to neutralize ethanol. Didnt hurt anything. Dunno if it helped other than a state of mind thing

X3, I run green/blue Stabil in every tank. It's supposed to help keep water from collecting. I usually use the highest recommended amount, in hope that it actually cleans something too.
 
I'd have to explain the whole "light ends" theory for you to understand.. There are MANY MORE "light ends" compared to SUMMER FUEL... Fuel Stabillizers do HELP with keeping the "light ends" from vaporizing.. WHich leads to SLOWER FORMATION of VARNISHES.... HERE"S AN IDEA... USE RACING FUEL.. Just a gallon or two.. Todays tanks are PLASTIC and need NOT be filled up for storage.. WHY would you want to WASTE 10 gallons of gas???? NEVER run old fuel THROUGH your engine.. NEVER NEVER NEVER !!!! STABILIZED OR NOT !!!! OLD FUEL burned through a combustion CYCLE actually GUMS UP THE ENGINE LIKE CRAZY !!!!! the MORE fuel you have,, the MORE WATER you'll have next season !!!! You want to neutralize ethanol?????? WHy would you want to do that?????/ Little ICE CRYSTALS not GATHERED by ETHANOL will get in a mainjet and DESTROY YOUR ENGINE... ETHANOL is a GOD SENT for 2 stroke MAINJETS.... PLEASE let the water roll up into a BALL and let it FREEZE into a HARD CHUNK and let it roll around in your tank FOREVER...... GO BUY A GALLON OF VP RACING FUEL 110 and throw it into your empty tank...Along with a 8oz cup of DIESEL FUEL or better yet,, KEROSENE!!!
 
try ethanol shield. I used it for the first time and love it. Pulled the carbs off and checked the bowls. No water. No gunk. And smells just like a fresh tank of gas. After seeing that i will use only that stuff.

What will keep it out of the fuel lines if we do that? My carbs are heated, so I don't think main jet freeze is an issue.
 
On a mountain sled anything in the tank will end up stirred up and out of the tank in no time. Starting with a dry clean tank every fall, clean carbs and good gas with stabilizer is my peace of mind.
