Reverse lights on my trailer

I got to thinking the other day of some of the things I need to do before the next riding season and one of the mods I'm leaning pretty strong for is adding at least one reverse light on the back of my trailer.I don't know about the rest of the trailer owners but when I'm backing mine into my yard after dark it's a real pain,I'm guessing half the time hoping nothing is too close.Has anybody else done this or thought about doing it? It shouldn't be terribly difficult to do,as far as power just tap into the back up light on the truck then just mount the light in a convenient out of the way spot.
I gotta say I don't know why trailers don't come with them already installed, this seems like a no brainer.

If you're only running one light it probably isn't an issue, but any more and you may run into over-loading the reverse light circuit of your truck. In which case just use a relay.

Just a thought.
 
What kind of tow vehicle do you have? Did it come with a tow package? Most trucks that come with a tow package and a seven prong plug will have a wire to the plug for reverse lights. On my 3/4 ton I always put reverse light on the trailers, mostly non led and never had a problem.
 
I run a few Snow plow trucks that I have auxilary reverse lights wired to a toggle. A couple years ago I added reverse lights on my flatbed car hauler. I went with a 2 wire(+/-) connector available at any autoparts/hardware store. Tied the + in the auxilary light and - to ground conection for aux/trailer plug lug on truck. Ran + all the way to rear of trailer and - to ground lug near tongue and a lug at the rear. I have seen guys use old crappy extensoin cords for +/-if you dont want to use trailer frame as a common ground. If you run a auxilary posi I would use a fuseable link, CHEAP compared to burning down your rig.

08 Silverado and yes it is tow package equiped.I'll have to check the plug and see which terminal is live with the reverse,that would be a lot easier to wire up.
 
Ok, I am sorry. What I had to do is attach a wire from my reverse light wire to my aux stud on plug. The aux on on the truck is the center post. Not hard to do its fairly simple take plug apart a hook new wire up. Been a while since I've done it.
