Twist grip throttle

I know it can be done, ...has anyone ever attempted this mod? I'm thinking of adding this to my list of things to do this summer and would appreciate any feedback.
 
seen it done many times. A buddy of mine does it to everyone of his sleds. Not sure what he uses. ===SRXSRULE===
 
ridden many dirt bikes as well as road bikes... still think I'd rather have the thumb throttle on my snowmobile. I guess it could relieve a little thumb stress to have a twist throttle though...
 
ya I'd be more inclined to put a lever throttle on a bike than a twist throttle on a sled

watch some superbike racing videos, you can see them off the gas pushing into a corner, there wrist is sometimes past a 90* angle to control the throttle, they are trying to feather than while pushing into the bars with all the force they can muster thru a wrist angle like that.

just makes me shake my head and ask why?

twist throttles where made so you could cruise all day at one spot on the throttle and just the weight of your hand will keep it there. in my opinion they are useless for anything else.

Why dont they put them on dirtbikes then? Im sure if a lever would work better or even as good, top mx and sb teams would be using them, I could be wrong though.
 
ya I dunno, it doesn't make sense to me but I assume there's a reason beyond tradition.

ever put a bike guy on a sled tho and watch him work a lever throttle, they are totally weirded out by it.

I dunno, just my observation, but I'd be more likely to transplant a lever onto a bike than a twist onto a sled
 
I tried it on one of my sleds and didn't care for it. Just wasn't comfortable,wore out my wrists. Never had those problems on my dirt bikes. Angles, I guess. Soc
 
A buddy of mine tried it on a sled of his. One ride and he switched it back. It was to difficult to control and lots of wrist fatigue.

I think your exactly right soc, the angles would really make it difficult to control the throttle unless you have one hell of a riser under your bars...didnt think of that.

Junior, maybe you could sell the idea of a short throttle lever to some road race people.....the more i think of it, the more it really does sound like a better idea than the twister.
 
When I did it,as far as I remember, all I had to do was file the lead end down to fit into the twist grip slot which was smaller. I did this in the early 80's to a TXL 340 Indy. Soc
 
We've been down this road but, I can imagine twisting on a hard right with the bars in your Lap has to easier than pushing a lever forward especially when standing and your torso(upper body) is above and partly in front of the bars in a sharp rt. turn ? ! ? The only way I've ever found to push the thottle when you're hanging off the right side in a sharp rt turn once again with your torso in front of the bars is to wrap my fingers around the bar and pull forward with four fingers. Hasn't anyone ever ridden a dirt bike in this position on a tight twisty trail ? Most early sleds had a lever in front of the bar (Pull to go) but, we all know the safety problems in that era that forced the lever to the backside along with reliability issues (freeze up's) !
