Vmax 540 600 block difference

Hi all just like the title says what would the difference be between a 1985 Vmax 540 and a 1995 600? Would the 600 bolt right into the older 540 sled motor mounts? One more question what would be a fair price to pay for a fresh 600 ? Thanks.

EX570's and Vmax 600 twins bolt in but you'll have to mod some stuff. Electricals are the biggest. Tach is electric on 570/600's along with other stuff.

It's been done before.

I bought brand new a 1994 600 and a 96 600XT and while they have some reliability advantages (+10 yr. newer tech) I would not trade a 540 for one due to the fun factor especially, considering the nimbleness/size with the 540 being way better on tight trail corner to corner type riding. The 5/600's are terrible on fuel mileage (little can be done to improve) and in my experience with a 10 gal tank have nearly the same pathetic range as a 540 with a 6.3 gal tank. Straight line/dead stop run the 5/600's may pull ahead until about ~60 and then it's all over. PS. I also, had a new 1988 Exciter and would consider them any day over the 94-96's especially, if you can find newer ones or a 93 SX.

Thanks for the reply's opsled & Vmax 540. I haven't run it since I bought it but the seller said he thought it had a blown head gasket. But he also included in the purchase brand new cylinders & piston's so when I bought it I'm sure he was thinking it had a blown piston and not a head gasket. Since I have the new topend maybe I'll just pull the motor and change the seals & topend and run it until it blows again.

Pay attention to the jet chart and normal maintenance, run GOOD gas and they are as dependable as any other sled. You can't jet them down two or three sizes like you can other sleds, Yamaha has them pretty close out of the box. Like vmax540 said they are better them the 500-600's and a lot more fun to ride. I have owned one sense they came out, fix the engine and check it over good and join the club of Vmax 540 owners!! You won't regret it!!
 
Vmax540, I couldn't agree more, you are 100 percent correct especially with todays junk gas. I have seen the very same thing over the years. Yamaha put that jet chart there for a reason, I just don't know why people thing they know more then Yamaha does about the jetting. Take care of these sleds and they will take care of you. There is nothing better then when you show your buddy's new super high tech, super fast new sled your snow flap! Boy do they get mad. Long live the 540!!
 
just to make a point about the 570 and 600 while they are so close a vmax top end will not fit on the 570 bottom end ..........been there and tried that .........cylinder stud spacing is different .......while i have not tried i believe the cranks are the same .......or at least i knoe the rods are the same ............
 
I HAVE A HOT 1983 VMAX OUT IN MY GARAGE SOMEWHERE !!! lol. RODE IT MORE THAN ANY OF MY SLEDS THIS PAST WINTER. DID HAVE SOME JETTING ISSUES, BUT GOOD TO GO NOW. 3;16 (YAMMIE TONY)
 
Nothing is the same between the Vmax 540 bottom end & the Exciter. The cranks are different and also the rods. The Exciter has a longer rod then the Vmax. The Exciter and the Vmax 500 I believe have the same cranks and cases, and the 93 Exciter SX and the Vmax 600 has the same cranks and bottom ends.
