better check out your clutch alignment,OEM belts don't go that fast..they are a harder compound and last a long time. The aftermarket belts may seem like they grab better. That is because they are a softer compound, but won't last as long.I learned the hard way with a Ultimax belt years back, brand new and broken in..she just ripped to pieces on me close to home.Put a nice dent in the foot well, broke the sparkplug holders, took out my speedo cable and wrapped itself around the primary..NEVER AGAIN will I do that..never ever had a OEM belt blow to pieces on me yet in all the years I have ridden Yamaha's.
I bought 00 and 01's new off of ebay for $40 each. Only difference I notice is the 01 have a bit of a squeal at idle.

i have hundred of miles on my aftermarket belt and like 20 on the oem one so never say never... i agree oem is usually better but just never say never...
i put 100's of miles on the used aftermarket belt after the oem ripped about 6 cogs off, so im not sure what to think there... im just going to double check everything before the snow flies... if i can find a spare moment

i have two 00 8dns on two srxs for probley over 6 years now. both under huge racing conditions on tar, snow, ice and grass. that belt is bulletproof if clutchs are perfect. 3:16 (yammie tony)

so what are you suggesting might have happened to my new oem belt then?
lets not forget i have ran it probably close to 300 miles on a used aftermarket since then with no problems...
im pretty sure i got a Friday belt or something... even a fan belt for a '57 chevy would have lasted more than 20 miles

like you posted, rip into your clutches, inspect all your rollers, bushing , springs etc. clean and free everything up. yamaha don,t make stuff on fridays. i seen that 8dn belt work perfect on turbo sleds. my guess is the aftermarket softer compound lasting longer good be the key. now with this said, if a aftermarket belt works , run it. soft compound belts are great for keeping heat out of clutches. 3:16 (yammie tony)
