That whole thing about the 03 viper cable being longer than a mm is a load of bs. Unless the cable had been changed unknowingly by a previous shop and it was all they had, the cable I took off my MM was an inch longer than both viper cables I ordered. I had powermadd cables, and didn't feel comfortable about the oil pump adjustment. I do have a 03 viper throttle cable which is longer, and has much less friction than the aftermarket one I had. I have the rox fx tall adjustable risers (8 3/4 at full height) iirc lowered to about the middle of their travel with a rsi t-post and fly aerotaper bars. I started with them at full extension, but they just were too tall for good mountain riding posture. I am at the sweet spot now, and have just enough length on the oil cable with cleaver routing. This pic is with the aftermarket cables. The oem cables when on when I drained the carbs this spring. The aftermarket cables get hung up on trees when it gets tight like this anyways, much better setup with the oem following the bars. With the bar geometry, I can do all the wrong foot forward counter steer riding I want and never have to worry about falling off or losing my balance.

They have to be 03 viper MOUNTAIN cables. Not just 03 viper cables. The prefix on the part is different. Snowdad posted it in a previous post. They are 2" longer then stock viper cables and longer then the MM cables. My cables for my 04 (break same but throttle/oil slightly different but same concept) were exactly 2" longer then stock viper cables. I used these cables with plenty of room running 7 3/4 inch rise and apex bars. chrisBackwoods M Max said:That whole thing about the 03 viper cable being longer than a mm is a load of bs. backwoods-you had the wrong cables, period. fact is the mtn viper oil cable from 03 are exactly 2.5" longer than the cables on the mtn max up to 02.
i dont have a throttle cable on hand, but as i mentioned earlier, the mtn max throttle exits the carb rack via a 90* metal sleeve limiting length.(you can confirm that fact looking at you stock cable) the 03 mtn viper cable comes straight in, giving you more options for routing. soon as i locate that mtn viper cable, i will post the exact length difference as well.
apparently you have only done this with your sled. i have done several sleds and have guided countless others to try the same setup without negative feedback.
no pissing match intended, just clarifying facts. 03 mtn viper cables are in fact longer than mtn max cables, period.
if you still have the cables and are still clean, the housing will have the part number on it in white. check the prefix, just for curiosity.

I have ordered 2 of the viper mountain cables and both bags have had the same part numbers on them and both have been the same result. In fact the second one was on backorder for 4 months because the us distributor was out, it was new production from japan. I have an 02 mountain max, maybe that has something to do with it, but I've been disappointed trying to make this super long factory cable appear at my door with no luck. I have a viper mountain throttle cable, and it runs through the air box, both are a perfect length for my setup.

Not getting into the which cables are longer question, but if you found a cheap pair of viper mtn bars, they are 2" taller than MM bars. With an inexpensive riser block and a pair of used bars, you could get the height you want. They even make angled blocks to shift the pivot point of the bars so you're more rider forward, check out Ole's machine stuff. $63 for a 6" machined riser, looks nice. Wouldn't need new bars...I'll stop my rambling now.

For what it's worth, the '03 Viper Mountain or Mountain Viper whatever oil pump cable, part #8EN-26320-00-00, is actually shorter than the stock Mountain Max oil pump cable by almost an inch. I have them both in my hand. Maybe the longer ones are the 8EK ones?

Forgot about this thread and never let you guys know what i did. With a 5" pivot riser i ordered a mountain max extended throttle line and powermadd extended brake line. The stock parking brake was long enough with re-routing it. The oil line has an inch of slack, so i didn't need to mess with it other than routing it through the air box.

I had the same thing happen to me, which is why I was adamant about the viper mountain oil cable not being this larger than life, longer than anything oil cable. I ordered 2 just because I thought I may have gotten it wrong the first time. Both had the correct part number on them 8EN-26320-00-00 and were 1" shorter. Now the viper mtn throttle cable different story, not having the bent tube on the end I went right through the airbox and it was perfect.
