Proper piston circlip installation

Is there a proper method for installing circlips on my MM 700 pistons? are they just installed starting one leg of the clip in the clip groove and working the clip in gradually with your fingers?Or is there a circlip installation tool recommended like Skidoo clips are installed?
 
I wonder if Yamaha shop mechanics are suggested to use a circlip tool? the 20mm Yamaha circlips look easier to install with fingers than the ultra stiff Skidoo 18mm clips.You almost absolutely need their installation tool.
 
THE OLD FINGER. GET A RAG DOWN IN CASE BECAUSE THEY WILL FLY. MAKE SURE CLIP IN SLOT AND TURNED WHERE YOU CAN BRY OUT NEXT TIME. AND USE YAMAHA CLIPS. THEY MUST FIGHT YA, IF THEY DROP RIGHT IN, THEIR JUNK. 3:16 (yammie tony)
