85 phazer front right sagging

My son has an 85 phazer and it is sagging on the front right. What do you figure is wrong with the strut? New spring needed perhaps?? The left side strut feels good when you push on it and it springs back up quick however the right doesn't feel anywhere near the same. There also seems to be alot of slop in the front end. Any help would be appreciated.

any signs of oil leaking below the strut? thats usually the norm if all the suspension components are cycling as they should. spring would be the last on my list of things to check, but dont rule it out yet.

the "slop" can be from many things, most times the scissors behind the struts and the associated parts are worn or stuck.

schmidt brothers used to rebuild the tss struts, dont know if they if they still do, may be worth a call. cheapest way out would be lucking into a known good replacement, but you are dealing with some old iron.
 
I have t.s.s. parts for that machine. I'll check them over good and if they are deemed usable I can let you know if you'd like. Came out of an 87. I should have springs and the shock.

The strutt has nothing to do with ride hight, it only dampens. Hight is controlled by the spring. Chances of it being broken are slim. The most likely culprit is rust/crust/hard dry grease/etc in the tube the strutt rides in that is not allowing the spring to do it's job and return ride hight after compression.

Slop is usually worn parts in the steering sissors.

While that is true, if the shock goes bad, the spring isn't usually too far behind if the shock isn't replaced. I have a set of springs out of my xlv that are two different lengths after one season with a blown shock. It will cause the front end to sag on one side.

To the OP.. I will take a ride out to my storage unit tomorrow and look those parts over. If they are still good, I'll give you a hell of a deal on them since they are hard to find and I have no use for them.
