Wow now $260 for the season pass plus everything else to get on the trails. Last year the province of Ontario's Trail conditions map was Blood RED. Closed for 90% of the winter south of North Bay. Occasional limited and open popped up but gone after a day or two. There wasn't any base for any trail last year just snowfall to snowfall.

This has gotten to be too costly a outing for the odd weekend here and there. Winter is short as it is and the period there is snow even shorter.

I'll have my machine ready but buying nothing until and if it looks very very good since its not worth it for 2-3 days out of a season. :sled1:

Our seasonal permit here in NB is $235 plus tax but we don't have near the mileage of trails you do.I'm fortunate in that both my sleds qualify as classics now and the permits for them are $90 plus tax a piece.

This year I see that our federation has adopted a few new rules this year too.
1. At least one mirror on the left side
2. Trail pass displayed on the lower left side of the windshield
3. License plate fixed to the snow flap.( We have a license plate here instead of registration numbers.

There's been some talk on HCS about these new rules and they aren't being received very well.I figure as long as the trail pass is on the sled you should be good and the plate deal, well as most sledders can attest the flap is probably the worst location for a license plate. And again I figure as long as you've got it on the sled or at the very least with you you should be good.Mirrors, well yeah they are a good idea and I have thought of putting one on my sled,as a matter of fact I bought one of the powermadd handguard ones to mount, but the idea of being told I HAVE to put on on my sled is kind of pissing me off.The idea of drilling holes in the cab doesn't sit well with me but hopefully the powermadd one will pass muster. This rule I figure came from Quebec where it's law to have a mirror on the sled but it's still not sitting well.

$125 here for a pass, but I never buy one,I ride everywhere else but on the trails.I have ridden on some trails a little without a permit, but that was after midnight..no one around to check.I live close to 2 rivers,so a lot of area to ride in.

We have limited trails (logging roads and private access that are not part of the system). As per the NB post, yes we've had to do that and more always. Permit is not transferable so we also have to carry the paperwork to prove that it was the machine bought for. Turkeys.

I like it but if there is only passible trails for a few week with just enough snow its extremely difficult to justify. For the people that live out and in it like Bluemonster1 its much easier to do. We have plenty of lakes but you need to ride the trails to get to the lakes to run across them and if the ice is not good you're stuck to the trail. Many times they'll swallow a sled in open spots and weak ice. Happens every year people think they can sled over anything, NOT they go through and most don't come out.

For the casual ride to goes to their or someones cottage, you have only two days max to ride the weekend before you head home. I have seen it great in middle of the week and then the temperature is up another 20 degrees and its all gone. It can happen over and over. LOL So paying all the money for nothing is pointless. So we wait and wait then decide whether or not to ahead.

Buy early for a lower price...

you should be able to buy a vintage pass for your 97..($140 before Dec1)
I just bought mine (for an 01 $187.50 before Nov 1)

yeah here also we have to by a Pass for each sled, not transferable either which is not fair..I can't ride my 2 sleds at the same time.I am less then 5 minutes away from either River system out here, hit the ditch's from my house. If I took the Red River South, eventually I will enter the USA,but have never tried it.Straight line on the HWY from my house to the US border is around 60 miles,by river(because it winds so much) may be 75 to 100 miles to get there. From the River I can climb into the Bush and hit 3 plus feet deep snow also, which will be my favorite riding since I long tracked my 600 to a 144..can't wait.

PS:We had some snow fluries today already. about 1.5 hours North from me they got about a foot of snow..it is coming boys..

Get your pass online for $180 before November 1st. Classics are only $140...last year it was late, but we still had good riding all over southern Ontario....once we got that big storm it was all good. It was at the end of January though. After that storm, there was more snow in fergus than at my cottage 30 mins past Huntsville....this year should be good! They are calling for average to above average snowfall!! If you wait to buy your pass, you will pay full price, it was $260 last year as well. If you plan on riding, you might as well get your pass now and save some money!

Your trail pass prices are outrageous. I really feel bad for you guys. In wisconsin, I think we pay $30 and it's good for 2 years.

WOW! I feel for you guys. I just looked up the Minnesota prices and a 3 year registration and trail pass is $78.50. Beginning this year they are also offering a 3 year non-trail reg for for only $48.50.

I wish it was cheap like that. 3hrs north of me everything is about half price. Sticker for your truck is only $40, insurance is cheaper, you don't have to e-test (emissions) your vehicle etc. stuff like that! One day I will move to cottage country, it may take a while but that's where I'm headed. I know, a little off topic. A lot of work is involved into keeping trails groomed and open, I don't mind paying the money for doing something I love. Next year it will be a classic price for my SRX. I'm dishing out $320 for two passes, $400 for insurance for both sleds...that doesn't even include fire or theft, just liability. $30 for two stickers.

Not to mention all the new parts and repairs this year....new track, skis, ski loops, carbides, shock rebuilds, a bunch of new gear, tune-up and a bunch of other things are needing replaced or fixed. Going to be an expensive season.....make hay in the summer so ya can burn it in the winter!!

Don't believe that. I looked and my son looked at was all RED south of North Bay, & Bancroft with the odd exception. Some Yellow which changed daily. Even around Family Day (free access weekend) it just started getting better.

That Photoshop'd or from a different era like 2003 when we got snow. There were plenty of discussions here on how bad it was last winter with some people in the Georgian bay snow belt getting belted but the clubs never turned the trails green (I looked always red, maybe the did not go out and groom).

They were green all over just like that. I was looking at the maps at least two times a day! I did a lot of sledding in the Georgian Bay Area, Huntsville at my cottage and down south here at home, trails were mint after we got that big storm, like I said there was more snow down south here in fergus than at my cottage In Huntsville...which I've never seen before outta the 30yrs I've been going to my cottage. Trails were mint last year! Just arrived a little late that's all...

LOL yes just pour the green onto the red and its done in most cases. LOL

No but seriously maybe I blinked and it was one of those early storms that dumped several feet in Halliburton and nothing the rest of the winter. Someone at the OFSC toggled it all green. But I never ever seen that before. I check all Feb into March and it was grim or GRIM !! May son was looking as well. we drove by some trail crossings and no white was to be seen. Dirt and rocks.

I gave up buying early and just have them sit all winter. Too much money for everything and knowhere to go so there are more and more have smartened up and don't buy until its at least above limited and somewhere to go.

Yes, because I like to forge fake trail maps in my spare time..... When I'm not working on sleds I'm working on giving you false trail conditions
