Clutch cleaning for a dummy?

This board has been helping me save money by doing my own work and im getting more and more confident each passing season, anyways, got my 2000 sxr out last night. Cleaned the carbs, poured a small capful of mixed gas down each carb, took one pull the start and she smoked the fogging oil like hell but she is running great..
I also learned how to take out the slides, lifted back end up, my buddy sat under sled and banged the old slide out with a hammer and screwdriver(not sure if this is the hard way or not, but they came out) so just waiting for my new slides to come in. So now I saved money on doing slides..
Now onto the clutch, can someone explain what I do for maintaining the clutch? I know nothing about clutches other then which one is primary and which one is secondary and that they spin the belt, that's all I know. What exactly do I do with these? which one comes off? where do I clean? is this hard? easy? I hate to ask for details but this is probably something that im gonna need to learn how to maintain. clutches have not been touched in two years now since mechanic worked on sled... anyways, thanks for the help...
 
Pop your primary off with a puller or hyrolock. Check out your rollers. Check out your sheaves and make sure there is no cracking from heat. Take some scotch bright and clean them up then I lightly emery cloth mine as well frombthe certer out. Pop off your primary spring cover and put a new spring in. Pull off the secondary. Inspect and clean the sheaves the same as the primary. Mark and pull off the helix. Check your can shoes that run on the helix for any wear. Check the bushings for wear that the clutch slides on. Put a new secondary spring in as well. Make sure you have it clocked properly. Torque your primary and secondary. Make sure your alignment is within spec. Brapppppp
 
Honestly depending on your mechanic it may have ben even longer than the 2 years since they were "serviced". Being CLEAN is a big factor. If you don't have access to primary puller just rotating the motor using carb/brake cleaner flushing the crud out will go a LONG WAY to happy clutch! Belt dust will end of in the nooks and crannys.....get it out and some fresh lube on moving parts.
 
I have also used one of those steam cleaning gun looking things. Some Australian speaking chap sell em on the boob-tube on Sunday morning. Cause ya know, a British or Australian speaking accent sells more sh!t.
Have used the dishwasher as well when I know that the wife won't be around.
