this is a problem thats been going on since last year. if i have the engine at a consistant speed lets say like 20mph and holding around 55-6000 rpm then put it to the bar it will gurgle a little thing rev out. also if i am at a dead stop and go from idle to wide open it will do the same. my jetting is stock. primary and secondary clutch was recently gone through. maybe i have the secondary too loose it it is giving it too high of a ratio to fast? seconday has new buttons. not sure what holes the spring are on. primary is stock nothing is worn.

If its a 600 triple that could be the midrange burble they are known for. Look into reed spacers and the reed stopper notch.
its a 600 twin. i baught it 2 years ago ran fine until towards the end of last winter. it has new reeds and 140 psi compression in both cylinders.

have the carbs been cleaned? Ethanol fuel is such a pain these days...

It almost sounds main jet related. Sxr700Bandit is right, Ethanol fuel is troublesome. Especially if it sits for any period of time.

How do the plugs look? Any lean spots?
plugs look fine. slightly on the rich side because it was 34 when i ran it the other night. plugs have a nice golden color with a tad oil tint to them.

Clean the carbs and adjust the floats per the tech tip page and adjust the floats you can even do the reed stop notch mod and that thing will be snappy at all rpms

Adjust the oil pump too!
thanks for the tips. i really like this snowmobile because of the extremely soft seat and amazing reliability. but i want more power with out getting a new sled i would really hate to let this sled go for somthing less reliable and more expensive.pro116 said:Adjust the oil pump too!
would the hauck 700 big bore and porting really wake it up or is it a waste. because like i said i dont want a new sled because of the reliability of this motor. ive been around the block with arctic cats and ski doos.
now dont get me wrong the zr 900s and thunder cats are one hell of a sled but i would never leave my property on one with out someone riding with and have a strap in the back compartment.

The 700 would be a waste you would be better off upgrading to a sxr 700 or a Srx 700.
You can make the twin 600's go pretty good but as far as reliability they don't even compare to the Srx or the red head triples.

could i stuff a triple in this belly pan? i dont have the 2-3 grand to spend on another sled. i could afford the 1000 dollars or so to get a running triple motor or to make this sled better. but like i said i cant afford another sled. i have a trail sled and i have it set up to be just that, a trail sled.
i mean you can take any sled and hit some drifts then jump on the trails but i would like to have one specifically for trail and one just for playing and taking a little abuse.

If you look around you might be able to find a triple sled for around $1000. I picked up and 98 XTC 700 in good shape a few months back for $700

I am just jumping in and asking. Doesn't it say here in the tech pages somewhere not to do the reed stop notch or spacers on the Twin. Maybe it was just not expected to be effective. If you have experienced positive results on a 2 cylinder I may like to try it on our 500 myself.

the twins didn't benefit from stopper notch or reed spacers, the triples benefit as the front transfer port is partially blocked and the notch or spacers allows for better air flow.

I have a 98 600 xtc which is the same exact engine just clutched a bit different. I put a simple clutch kit with viper reeds and did the notch and it woke it up big time. I was always under the impression that the reed stopper notch did benefit the twins. I did a ton of reading on this before I did it , I'll have to dig up some posts for reference as it was last year. Might be wrong.

Cory I think this would be a good mod for you. Also a simple clutch kit. Did you check out the tech section for set ups yet. Or do a search on 600 twin clutching. Lots of good old posts about getting the most from these twins.

You are misinformed brother.

Yes the triple red heads will fit in your sled as they are the same chasis but of course you would need the electrical system too.
