Viper with 1.25 track rubs cooler

Soo I buy 02 Viper ER.
They just put a brand me ripsaw on it
They didn't notch the track where it would
rub the cooler guards. Soo the sled basically
Notched the track itself and gouged that area
out of the track and started to rub into the guards some.
I've read these sleds come with.1.25 tracks?
So what gives?
Do I sell the track and get a 1 inch or put stupid 8 tooth drivers on and then play with the gears I know nothing about? ? ! ! !
 
02 came with a .91 they called a 1 inch I'm pretty sure.

I run a 1.25 on mine now no studs. I notched the track with a razor blade and all seems fine. Or you can get rid of the guards.

If you wanna run studs my understanding is 8 inch drivers or go to a 1 inch track are your only options.
 
yes, they did come with 1.25 tracks in 04 ..BUT ..they didnt have front cooler guards in them from the factory like your 02 does. If its already rubbed it then you dont have to do anything, the rubber will wear fast against the aluminum. Or,... you can just jack up the sled and trim the area with a razor knife for clearance, it wont hurt it 1 bit. A new razor knife will slice thru the track rubber like hot butter. you should only need to cut a small window there just to clear the protectors, not like your cutting off a whole lug. Thios should have been done by the people who installed the track, but I have also had to redo jobs that other people didnt complete before, sucks i know.
I would NOT use 8 tooth drivers, the amount they reduce performance isnt worth the time or the money they cost. they reduce top speed and overall efficency as the smaller you make the driver the harder it is to bend the track around it, not too mention the gearing and speedo will all need work to be right again.

You can run 1.25in tracks with studs. Its tight but it does work with the 9 tooth drivers. I got a 03 viper and my dad has a 02 vmax both running the same tracks studded on 9 tooth with 1.25in ripsaws.

You do have to notch them. A friend of mine bought a viper for his wife and it sounds like the same thing happened to him as what happened to you. It had a 1.25in track that wasnt notched. The track actually wore through the front heat exchanger.

Good golly i'd be so nervous I don't think I could enjoy riding with so little room for error.

I ride mine hard but not most of the time. I mostly trail ride but still like to go play. I looked and there is a good 1/2in of clearance between the studs and heat exchanger. I notched my track 1/4in for it to clear the protectors so when the track slaps the protectors there is still a good 1/4in its away for the exchanger.
 
Are you running a long track? ie 136 or longer? if so, install the 8 tooth drivers and have fun. Better take off, quicker shifting, overall better low speed performance. If you are running a 1.25 track your top speed is going to suffer, so I really don't believe you are racing for top speed runs. Intall the 8 tooth drivers, stud that puppy up and have a good time.
