I have heard a rumor from a yamaha shop that if the transfer rods are removed entirely, the sled will trench less in deep snow.(not replaced with aftermarket, just left off.) Mountain performance sells a transfer enhancement kit that seems to do something similar, yet im not sure. Does anyone know what the kit does, or if I should just remove the rods and let it fly. I am not concerned with trailability, as that is just how I get to where I ride. I have a 98 Mountain SRX and ride in powder mainly. Thanks to all, i appreciate any comments and advice.

I just installed the kit on my sled 3 weeks ago it works awsome! I would reccomend it to any Yamaha guys that ride in powder. Also an easy intall and easy instructions

ya gotta put the straps and spacers in place of the stock rods or the suspension will malfunction....I've been thinking bout this kit also, it allows the rear and center shock to work independantly....but pulling the skis would cause trenching in the pow, the stock rods keep the front and rear of the track working up and down together where the mod allows the track to pivot? Seems like higher speed trail riding would suck but docking in the trees would be improved, anybody have this mod, how does it actually affect the sleds ride?

with the rods lightened up for more transfer it makes the rear spring effect come in later resulting in spongy rear suspension but with some tuning for conditions you can achieve somewhat of a balance,,in the other side if you soften it up for more weight transfer when you get out of the powder steering stinks,,,but for powder transfer it back and get the flaotation and play with the rear shock settings

I put the kit in and rode in about a foot of pow on a good base, the track feels like it hugs the contour of the terrain better, where, when the t-rods were in, the track's front and rear moved up and down together and seemed to spin more. The kit felt smoother and more tractable for my style of riding, boondocking,trees,totally off trail, I did do a little medium speed trail, 50mph tops on my gps, and it seemed to ride better with the kit, also jumped some and it worked fine.
