bearing changes

Pretty sure I've got a good shaft here I can get to you cheap. Pm me if you're interested. Also I agree with MrViper here, I weld for a living, all day, everyday. Unless whoever is going to weld and machine it has the equipment to properly heat treat it you're wasting your time.
 
oh ya...., that one is ground down good, throw a good used one in and go ride!
 
I agree with replacing the shaft. It looks like it has gotten hot before which can cause them to bend. Even the slightest bend will cause a vibration that will kill bearings and annoy the rider.
 
Holy Crap! Thats pretty bad, how has it gone this long? The speed that thing spins at how would that even be driveable?
 
there must of been lots of play play in the secondary clutch with it like that!, you may even want to look at the chain case side bearings, since that shaft was not running strait, the other bearing would of had massive side load on them.
 
Dont worry boys I have all the drive line bearings new from Yamaha. I bought the sled for 1500 bucks. Pretty good deal. So the big question I had is there suppost to be a shoulder on there? Is mine just wore down a big or is the dirty groove not support to be there at all. Does anyone have any pictures of there new shafts?
 
I did mine in the spring. If I remember correctly there is no groove once so ever. It's just a smooth shaft (no pun intended). Like everyone else already said, I think you'll need a new jackshaft.
 
Yes it is worn down that mutch and as said it is toast.The bearing seized up and started to tear at the shaft with the set screws because it could not turn anymore.I would replace the shaft with a good used one.Check the keyway slot for the brake roter is good.Buy the 2 bearing retainers or washers and replace.Use yamy bearings as you have and install shaft properly.Hold brake down and tighton top gear tight then the set screws for the bearing.Then tighton the seconday bolt,



The bearing sits nice and tight on the shaft so the set screws only helps the bearing turn .
 
i didnt really pay alot of attention to the bearing when i took it off but it doesnt really look like the bearing sits right there. the bearing cant move anywhere. the bearing has a two piece flange on either side of it and the shaft shouldnt move right to left due to the belt and the chaincase/brake rotor. i guess ill just have to figure it out when i slap it together. is there any tips or steps to follow while assembling everything back together. i know i have to pull the chaincase side plastics off so i can get the jackshaft out. any other secrets lol.
 
your right the bearing cant move however when the bearing gets rough or the set screw comes loose the jackshaft will start to slip and chew itself up like that. With it being worn that much, I would for sure suggest replacing the top bearing in the chaincase as well, because the shaft would have been moving and stressing/ruining that bearing as well. replace the seal in the backside on chaincase too.

to get the jackshaft out without drilling out 100 rivets, you can remove the long phillips head screw from inside the hood hold down nipple on bellypan, then it will flex out and down slightly enough to squeek out the jackshaft.
 
got it figured out i was stumped when i got to the brake rotor. it was kinda seized on there a little bit. got er off and slid the shaft right out. now just waiting for parts so i decided to polisher her all up. i noticed my brake torot key is wore like previously mentioned.
