SRX muffler differences?

One thing I used noticed as different between my 98 and my buds 01 SRX 700 was the exhaust note and I was always curious why the 01 sounded different.Now that I have my own 01 I found out that the firing order is different between the 98/99's and the 00-02's so would this account for the difference in the exhaust note?There isn't any difference in the internal baffle of the muffler is there?I know that the part numbers are different for the 98/99 vs 00-02 but I'm assuming that's because of the coupling on the end that goes to the muffler.

theres no differance in the firing order, its still every 120 degrees, the differance is that instead of firing all 3 spark plugs at the same time like the 98-99 do, the 2000-02 just fires each at tdc with the 3d ign. its to save wasted spark energy. still fires each cylinder at the same 120 degrees.

only differance i know in the muffler is for the end gasket to seal the 98 muffler has a bit differnt length on the rear part because the 98 didnt have the adjustable sliding rear donut gakets.

2000-02 has tighter squish and a little more compression then the 98-99 engines, porting just a tad differnt, so the engine response is a bit differnt. that might be what sounds differnt to you.

Yeah I guess when I said firing order I was meaning the firing sequence or timing.I just always wondered why the 00-02's sounded so much "crisper" or snappier.Thanks Don.

I understand what you meant, no biggie.

the 98-99 doesnt seem as snappy cause the heads are looser squish,ign. helps a little bit and the porting is a tad differnt, but all 3 things together made for a better package.
