advice on a sled.

hey guys. im new on here...im lookin at a sled and i was wondering if this sounds good at this price. thanks alot for your help.

2004 Yamaha SX 700 Viper. 700cc Triple, Reverse, Electric start, Pull start, 130Lbs compression in every cyl. 4900 miles, Rebuilt at 38xx. Sno Can performance Can, ( Sounds nice and Snotty) Snow Pro Black Windscreen, Red LED lights under hood, Digital dash, 4" Handle bar risers with all new cables, Studded Track, Composite Yamaha Skis with carbides, Extra range external gas tank, Polished Tunnel, Nice seat, Helmet warmer plug in, Heated hand grips, Heated thumb warmer, This sled needs nothing but snow, and a new Home...

Sled prices vary ALOT by area. Look it up on KBB.com. It will have a "retail" as well as "trade in" values. What its worth is some where in between. Compression was staggered from the factory (one cylinder supposed to be10-15lb pounds less) That carb is jetted different as well. Theres a head mod that's done to even the compression or could have aftermarket head. With compression "130 in every cylinder" I suspect one or the other has ben done. Carbs are jetted same with comp evened out. All that being said, The last thing I need is another sled, IF it were in my neck of the woods I would be chomping at the bit to go bring it home!

yeah. i just looked it up. its anywhere between 1880 and 2785. i guess its right. what is the benefit with having the same compression between all three? sorry.. pretty new with mechanics. lol bear with me. have you heard anything, good or bad about those external fuel tanks? or is it just gonna add unwanted weight?
 
Search and read some threads. "Viper compression" "opticool gasket" "viper head mod" or "bender mod" ALOT of info to soak up so to speak. Some say bad head design other say it bad fuel adding to poor design. They lower compression and re-jetted that carb due to it building heat in that cylinder. Head mod or aftermarket head resolves issue. Benders Opti-cool head gasket helps a lot as does rear cooler versus the cross over tube they come with. I just bought my first viper (an 04 Viper S) last year, Have had a lot of SRXs though. The needles (in the carbs) need to be adjusted/checked as well. Write up in tech section about the needles. External tank????? They get pretty good mileage (single pipe, not so good with triple pipes) so unless you plan on triple piping it and going a lloooonnnnggggwayys between gas stations I wouldn't see a need for it.
 
gotcha. i'll def read up on it. i was only curious about the tank since it says it has an external fuel tank. its a "tour buddy". thats the name of it. it looks like its mounted above the belt guard. im sure its easy to remove. well i appreciate the help. it sounds pretty good. im gonna go take a look at it. i'll let you know if i come home with an early christmas present haha.

Exactly. Maybe he just thought it was good preventative maintenance, not realizing they can go much longer without one. Or maybe if he had the head mod done like Devil said, he had it done then? Who knows. Either way, its a good deal.
