Back in 1977 I was mixing my gas and oil to put in my doo 399 nordic when a Yamaha pulled up to the pump and just put gas in an GP 440( No mixing) I went with him to the trail and we switched sleds for a ride and I was sold on yamaha from that point on, Next year brand new 1978 exciter 440 was in my garage and been on yammers ever since!
I grew up riding friends sleds usually doos. Now with family we moved out where you can ride right from your house I picked up a 86 Tundra and 79 Jag, both ran decent but suspension was horrible. I wanted a 2 up to take my daughter out so picked up a "clean" Cougar, this was a decent sled but I could not keep pistons in it ... (ended up pulling 440 from Jag and putting on Cougar ). I then came across last year a 2000 Mountain Lite with the motor in a basket. Scored jugs and all. Sent them out to get punched and match pistons. While waiting I came across an older 80 Phazer motor for $300 ... robbed the pistons and jugs an I was up and running. (I still am today with a spare set sitting in my basement ...
After the new year I came across a 98 VMax 500 also with the motor in a basket. This time all the new parts were there. 4 hours later I was up and running.
These are both fantastic sleds I bolted a Jack seat on the Mountain for 2 up with my daughter . I still have the Cougar but it sits lonely under the snow as I go off on my Yamis ....
I would love to find a small Enticer or Bravo for my daughter to learn on..
