Hey guys. I'm new to the site and new to yamaha. I was always a rotary valve man so I guess I'm new to reeds as well. Any ways I picked up what is said to be a 2001 mountian max 700. I can't tell for sure what year it is because it has a ekholm tunnel on it. I don't even know if it is a mm or a srx or a mountian srx is there any way to tell for sure on the year and model? Thanks in advance
 
theres a number stamped on a flat boos on the engine case on the recoil side facing rearward. that will tell you for sure what the engine is. once found, post up the entire number including the first three letters for an accurate assessment.

there are obvious physical differences between the srx and the mtn max engines, i wont bore you with details, numbers are a sure thing. read up a bit on powervalves(srx) and redheads(mtn max) to familiarize yourself.
 
Another quick question. I've searched for this but I'm doing it all from my phone with poor service. What skid is the best swap for a ditch banger/ mountian riding. Biggest thing I wanna do is shed some weight. Right now it has stock skid with extensions to 151. And I don't mean m10...ect. I mean xtra10 or sc10 ...
 
so i got on a computer today and did some searching. i am gonna look for a iq rear skid. now the question is how do i know what skid i have in there now? seems to me that who ever put the ekholm tunnel on may have moved the skid back. because even with the drop and roll there is a good 4-6'' of room betewwn the drivers and tips of the rails. i knjow when i dropped and rolled my summit i had to grind down the rubber caps on the rails to clear the drivers. i know it is a 151 i counted the holes and guessed that it was a 2.52 pitch. my track is still in good shape i just want to upgrade the skid
 
skid pics will work. yours being a 97 sled that came with the 136 track, and having that tunnel, most likely the skid was moved back around 4.5" and 3.5" rail extensions added. that was the most popular back then. other possibilities come to mind, but that move was most popular at the time.

enlarge that picture you have showing there if you can. if not, take a close up as mentioned. from my angle, rails appear period correct for the 136.
 
Ok. Looks to be a 4" ext. the sliders are about 53". The front shock has a 7.25" body and the rear has 10.5 body. Can I email the pics to someone ? Can't seem to upload them from my phone
 
used on all the mtn maxes 2000-2003, including the 600's. arctic cat had a few 141 skids. you can replace it with just about any mtn skid from any manufacturer, but why?

what you have there can work well, its just packing alot of weight. you can rid a few bogies, add ice scratchers(should have them anyway), eliminate the transfer rods in lieu of transfer straps, make a few adjustments, and fly!
 
Tell me more about getting rid of the transfer rods. I'm guessing you are talking about the sliding rods and the back of the suspension?
 
as much as i hate to suggest mountain performance for anything, thats the only place that had the kits, if they still have them. research their website.

i sold my last used set. not hard to duplicate, but you cant beat the price at mpi.
