wth to do with my skid

I am struggling to figure out what to do with my skid. I just pulled it to replace the track and to fix that other problem now but I just don't know if I want to put that thing back in. It's just plain f'n ugly. It looks like its been sitting in a hayfield for years. Nice and rusty. Not to mention we all know how the ride is with that skid. Ive been doing a lot of reading since I joined this awesome site a couple years ago and wonder if I should just find another skid. There seems to be plenty of options. One issue is this is the first sled that ive ever worked on. A different skid means modifications to the tunnel and I'm not sure I would be able to pull that off without some help. I have also thought about one of those aftermarket skids but holy hell they are spendy. Also, I will be very disappointed if I lose my corvette style handling in the corners. Find a viper skid that is in decent condition? What the hells a guy to do. I need some morale support!!
 
That's the option I've been leaning towards. Maybe I can coax a fellow member in helping me install one of those if I can find a good one.
 
Keep in mind the extra 10 and M-10 are different. The extra 10's are pretty cheap and not nearly as good as an M-10 though. If you want an M-10 be prepared to pay 350$ and up for one though, after you buy one chances are you'll need to repair that skid also.
 
If you want to keep your handling, I would go extra 10. The Viper skid will net you 11 inches of travel but it will still ride like your original skid. M-10 will probably hamper your handling characteristics but WILL ride like a Cadillac. You are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Only way out is down the middle and thats pretty much where the extra 10 falls.
 
^^ That's what im struggling with. ^^ I love the srx for just that reason. The 2 stroke speed and the cornering ability they have. Not going over the bumps. I think I am just going to find a skid in better condition and leave it at that.
 
I love my proaction skid,it is all been checked over and good..went long travel last year,but back to stock where the SRX should be for speed and handling..

When ever I start thinking my sled sucks in the bumps, a shock rebuild always impresses me. Fresh shocks and proper setup and these aren't that bad. Yeah they arent the best but still night and day difference from worn out shocks.

X2 - a fresh set of shocks makes a big difference. It's one of those things that you don't know you need it until you've done it and notice the difference.

I Viperized my SRX (front and rear) and am, all in all, happy. IMO - going Viper out back without widening the front doesn't yield the -on rails- handling the SRX is noted for.

If I had to do it over again I probably would have gone xtra10 only because I'm familiar with that skid having owned a few. But even that skid, like any other, is crap without fresh shocks or more specifically, fresh oil.
 
I never really felt like I lost any handling with mono shock skid personally. Seems to sit in a bit more
