Bought late last spring only put 34 miles on it. Carbon tech reeds, reed spacer, can mod. Just cleaned the carbs checked everything over greased and got it ready for winter. Started it up tonight let it warm up 3-4 minutes doesn't really want to come off idle, doesn't really backfire but sounds like the start of a backfire in the exhaust, comes out of it after 3k?????? Anyone got any ideas???? Cleaned all passages in the carbs cleaned the screens set the air screws @ 1 7/8. When I took them out to clean them they were all set different one was only out about 7/8 of a turn! Shouldn't they all be the same?

Sounds like your TORs switch is out of adjustment. Make sure you have enough freeplay in your throttle lever. There is a switch on the carbs and on the throttle lever, if there isn't enough free play the TORs will kick in and limit the RPMs. It's a safety device to keep you from suffering the embarrassment and damage of a runaway sled. The throttle lever should move about 1-2mm before the carbs open up for it to work right.
I didn't think of that there was a little play in the cable but not very much I'll check it after work tomorrow!
Nope not the tors got way to much free play still doing it. It will come above 3k once it does it runs fine. I'm thinking needle position or the air screw setting.

override the tors just to be sure, because this sounds exactly like tors activating. if not, clean carbs again maybe? how do the plugs look? i had a set of fouled plugs do that to me. you said it ran good last year, so now we got to think; what has changed that's now causing this?

Does flipping the choke on help????
overrode the tors no diff yes give the chocke a real quick on/off flip works until I come back to idle then it does it if I punch it! Bring the rpms up slow get above 3k and its fine.
Whats the clutch take at sometimes clutch prob acts like carb issue

Overrode.....Bypassed?(as in plugged back into each other on throttle side) If I am not mistaken a bad switch on throttle block will still trigger TORS when bypassed. Are the carbs clean?

to clean things up, you can ride it tho right? it will climb over 3000 rpm and just bogs around there?
If your certain its not the TORS, Id look at three things your pilot jet like others have suggested, your primary clutch, or possible a crack in a coil?
Other than that I would pull the carbs and re clean, sometimes when cleaning you can miss a piece of gunk, then you start the sled and it gets logged in a jet. This happened to me a few years ago, tried everythig to fix it nothing would work, re-cleaned the carbs and was good to go.

You never said if you still had last years gas in it. My thought if you are using good fresh gas is pilot jet as stated. However if the 600 & 700 carbs are similar and you are new to these carbs the air screws have a spring, flat washer & o-ring on them, sometimes O-rings fall out sometimes they stick or roll in the hole.
I can't do much for a couple more days but I will try the pilots look at the coils and reclean if nothing else works. Yeah Roudy I can ride it its fine once you get it moving just bugs me more than anything I know something is not right and I want it right!
X2 on the little O-ring it can be a pain sometimes, but I dont think this would cause what your describing.
Fresh new gas D-Day I saw the o rings and springs made sure they were in right so I'm with you I'm thinking Pilots or needles. And yes the whole sled is new to me Bought it late last year paid $800 for it with just over 4000 milesand put 34 miles on it.

Clean carbs again and pay close attention to pilots. Sometimes it takes more then one cleaning. Bliping choke is a dead giveaway!
