V-Belt questions..

Bought my sleds used begining of last years season, the current v-belts were both on at that time..I did about 1,000mi. last year so I'm wondering how to determine when to change them out since I don't know the total age or miles on them?..I did not loosen them for summer storage..oops.

Other question is are they the same v-belt?

'97 SX700 part is 89L-17641-01-00

'02 VMAX 600 ER is 8DN-17641-01-00
 
So if the V-belt is in good looking shape and meaure 1 1/4 keep running them regardless of miles?..

Interchange belts no big deal to me over a 150 rpm..in a pinch they can be swapped.
 
I like to rough up the sides of the belt if they look like they're getting glazed. Just do a good inspection if it's got alot of miles on it. Common sense prevails on this one.
 
I had a little squeal for a while last year on one but it went away...I'm going to take a good look at them before I start this season..measure too and flush with pulley top..if they pass all that I'm going with them another season..look at the spares close too.

Yes. You can adjust the secondary pulley width as the belt wears to maintain performance. I always run belts until they blow and that is probably the most common practice.
