Replacing reed stops...

I found a couple bad/cracked reed stops in my 02 Vmax. Just picked up a couple used ones locally. I noticed when taking the old ones off, that the screws were very hard turning the entire way coming out. I'm just wondering if any of u guys know if I should apply some LockTite. It doesn't look like there was LockTite originally on them. But like I mentioned, they were hard turning out the entire way. So I'm guessing that Yamaha engineers didn't want them to vibrate out. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx.

I just put a dab of blue on there. Not sure if it matters or not with the gas and such but never had one come out after replacing.

Good to here. I was thinking blue if any would be the recommended choice. I'm sure Red would be a nightmare if they ever had to come off again. They were hard enough as is. Thanx.

Well, the new reed stops are a no go. They must be off of an SRX or something other than my model vmax because the bolts holes are off about 2mm. Just enough to screw me. I was hoping that I didn't have to order them because I was supposed to go out sledding on Dec.19. I think I'm out of luck.

Do you's think that I might be able to ream the holes if I'm very carefull in doing so? The overall length and width of the stops are the same. Just very oddly, the screw holes don't match up.

Don't see any problem as long as they are the same shape and thickness.

I did it and it turned out great.

Those screw as are probably cut for an interference fit so that they are hard going in/out. A reed screw in the bottom end would be NOT good at 9000 rpm.
