Hi idle

So i have a 1989 yamaha XL-V engine that is running good, but the idle is at 3000rpm even when i get the throtle stop screw not to touch the butterfly and even if i get the pilot screw all the way in.....??? But when i get the pilot screw all the way in the engine is backfiring and not running good but that is normal. So i think my pilot screw is working.

In the manual, they say it is power idling and its caused buy overflow. My float hight, needle seat and needle are all ok. And the air vent is not clogged, ive checked all of those things. And carburator as been cleaned twice in a ultrasonic machine.

any ideas??

sounds like a badly plugged pilot circuit, step 1: clean carbs

as i said, i can close the pilot screw and the sled continue running... i guess this eliminates a clogged pilot circuit since when i close the circuit it continu running.

But ill re-reclean the crab paying close attention to pilot circuit.

i believe roy was referring to the pilot jet and its associated circuits located inside the carb under the float bowl, not that screw your adjusting on the outside top of the carb.

you need to dive in a bit deeper inside the carb, thats where your problem lies or a least something to eliminate. your borderline between having a keihin or a mikuni from memory. not much difference as far as servicing but the mikuni will have a rubber plug located on the center protrusion inside the carb. it should be tight, soft and supple vs hard and loose.

ultrasonic cleaners dont do any good if you dont open up the carb and remove the jets and help the associated circuits by using compressed air or an equivalent to blow the crap out. they do make for a nice appearing external though.
