What are some good, fun, reliable sleds at a good price >$2500 .. Have a few options

Well just looking for a sled for the woman, so we can go riding together.. I was going to look at a 06/07 apex attack but cant find much that really caught my eye.. So what are some of the best , most reliable older yamaha 2 strokes out there .. Also any other brand is welcomed too, but this obviously might be a slightly biased forum :) Ive heard many good things about polaris and the 500-600 liberty motors w/ edge chassis, but those are hard to come by around here as well

Well I have a 600 and 700 SRX and love them both. My wife complains about the throttle hurting her thumb after awhile though. Probably because your pulling three carbs.

I have owned many, I would say best all around trail sled would be a vmax xtc 700. best shocks, wide, motor runs smooth, and no powervalves to mess with. Not the most powerful but in a pro action, the best bang for the buck.
 
I agree with the XTC, good trail riding sled with electric start and some with reverse also.. My woman loves her Rx1 mainly for the electric start. That comes in handy so you don't have to help starting it nowand then for them.
 
as much as my yamaha has been good to me id have to say an edge 600, firecat 700, older rev will be much funner better riding sleds and for the most part fairly reliable (some of the rev 800s had problems). If you must stay yamaha id say look for an 07 phazer which around here seem to be going from $2500-$4000 CAD
 
Any sled with the red head 700 will outlast any other 2 stroke out there, as long as its been maintained. I'm biased toward Yamaha thou. That SRX you linked is a good deal, but if your looking for a simple, trouble free sled, the red head has less to go wrong. The power valved tripple has alittle more maintenance required.
 
I bought my woman a Venture. 700 redhead motor, electric start, reverse, and has a longer track for a more comfortable ride. Motor is easy to maintain and is very reliable with plenty of power. She can also carry gear or whatever on the back behind her. Rides nice on the trails and if she gets into some deeper stuff she gets threw it no problem. Also a has a higher windsheild for wind protection for her.. Happy woman makes for more riding for me..
 
Another vote for the redhead triple. I have been beyond pleased with mine.

01 SXR700 or anything 02+ with the hotter ignition, better headlight and dual hand/thumb knobs.
 
In the Vermont area where I live you can get a nice Viper, SRX, any V MAx or XTC, and even some RX1's. I've thought about selling my Viper and getting an RX 1 as it wouldn't be much of a price difference to try out a 4 stroke. I'm not sure if I'd be as happy with the heavier 4 stroke for the tight twisty trails we have here though so I'm going to hang on to my Viper for a while.
 
I really like my 600 venture. It's been good to us. But a 700 version would probably be even more reliable, and even more fun, with better mpg to boot.

The 500 and 600 liberty polaris sleds are extremely reliable, great on gas, oil, and ride very well. Plus the 600 with ves is very fast. As good as the redhead Yamaha's are, the 600 ve's motors are even better. I've thought about selling my 2000 xcsp 600, as I don't use it that much compared to the 2 up.
 
For the wife if you want to stick to Yamaha 2 stroke I'd probably go 700 redhead too. I bought a Viper for my wife a few years ago but ended up modding the heck out of it and now it's mine. still on the hunt for a sled for her. haha
 
Has she ridden before? The most "fun" sled I ever rode was a Skidoo Rev 550fan. It was comfy, warm, smooth, easy to control/handle, easy to pull start, and it had push button reverse. Sold it because I needed more power but for someone who cruises 55-60mph it's perfect IMO.
 
ive pretty much been though them all, had a 2004 mxzx 600 ho xps edition, 2005 mxzx 800ho, 2005 iqr 440/600, pro x 700, pro x2 600 and my brother had a f6. The firecats were good sleds, always ran good, descent on fuel, really liked oil. But every bolt on the dang thing needed to be taken out from the factory and locked tight with the strongest stuff.. the would rattle right out. The skidoos, 600 had the flaking ring problems but rode pretty good, not a whole lot of top end but low and midrange were good. looked cool. the 800 had bottom end problems not mine but my buddies did so i sold mine after i did some reading up onthem, the 600 pro x2 was a descent sled. good engine good power but didnt ride the greatest, iqr 600 conversion i had was just absolutely terrible. my favorite was my pro x 700, had good power, i had it set up just for me, blew multiple motor mounts and even snapped a slp torque arm in half. Slp was impressed say the least. But i am now back on a viper. My dad started me an my brother on a viper. Thing ripped right till 8600 miles on it and we sold it, last time we knew the next owner said he had 10500 miles on it. My dad was 350 pounds when he rode that thing and me and my brother rode it like we stole it. It loved it lol and my current viper does too. You just cant beat the sound, the smooth power and reliability of these tripples. Plus yamaha parts a pretty cheap, especially belts and oils vs the competition. just my 2 cents
