My buddy's ill mannered 2000 SX700R coil issue.....from the end of last season.
Background:
Starts and runs fine, but about a mile into anything it gets boggy and all it wants to do is about 3000 RPM. As he fights to keep it running it will clear up, and he'll motor away and the same deal in a mile or so. He's convinced it's a bad coil, but the caps are as equally black and "arcy looking" (for lack of a better term). He put new caps on it. Same deal
I'm not convinced it's a coil, and have not tested anything as of yet, but he's hell bent on replacing them. I at least talked him into buying one and trying that on all 3 holes if he's not going to test anything instead of buying all 3, and having that not be the problem and be out $250.
Issue:
So.....I go and look up a coil. All 3 SHOULD be the same pre-2001, but in 2000 things get weird. MAG side takes a different part #.
HUH???
Every other year they are all 3 the same but in 2000 something changes??? Other odd thing is that not all the 700s and Ventures are shown that way. Some take all 3 the same, some take 2 of one, and a different one on the MAG? What gives??? Electrically, these are the same machines under the hood until 2001.
Things are equally weird with the 600 starting in 2000.
Anyone know why, and what the real story is?
(I always use HLSM.com for parts lookup because it is a superior system, but I have verified this with several other sources as well. in 2000, things get weird)
