93 Phazer issues?

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site, hope I'm in the right area?
My Phazer started running funny so I cleaned the carbs, they looked good.
Put back together still doing it.
It starts fine, but when I rev it up seems like it is loaded up and won't clean out, smokes alot.
Took plugs out, left piston looks like it's running hot.
Any Ideas on where I should start?

You need to do a compression check before going any further. If both cylinders read 100+ then look back to the carbs, Might also want to check the primary clutch and see if there is any excessive movement.

You can mess up a lot of tuff in those,carbs. Make sure the rubber plugs go back in the proper holes. Confirm that you have reinstalled the fuel screw w/spring, washer, rubber O-ring in that order. The k this the,throttle butterflies are synched. ANY mice or nests in either air box or exhausts? Didn't stuff any paper towels in anywhere and forget to remove,them?

I had just put new plugs in. the left plug is brite in color. I think my buddy has a compression tester I can borrow.
I took the air box out thinking that was pluged, but it's clean.
I test ran the motor after cleaning the carbs and before I put the connecting boots to air box on and it ran great.
Put the boots on and it ran bad again.
Any other ideas?

Are you sure the black little rubber plugs are in the right spot inside the carbs?

X2, had a buddies snoscoot do the exact same thing. yeah I know there's a big difference, but it would only run with the intake disconnected. messed with the carb for days. finally found out there should be a rubber plug in there that was missing.
 
After the third time, the rubber plugs are in the right spot. LOL But it is still running bad. Two of the plugs are cracked at the base, one in each carb. I ordered new ones to replace.
I'm also thinking the oil pump might need a looking at? Make sure it is set right?20140101_105800.jpg
This is a picture of the plugs after I ran it for a bit today.
 
Check the reeds, not the most likely solution but pretty easy to check if you have the carbs out already.
 
I would wait and get the new carb plugs in then next thing then since it looks to be really rich in the 1 plug is the choke plungers, do they have any slack in them or is the cable adjsuted too tight???, when they are too tight it then lets in gas thru the choke circuit and makes it run overly rich.
 
Running the sled without the air box makes it run lean i believe, so check choke plungers, oil injection cable. Also to make sure your chokes are fully closing, pushing down on the switch a few times will help them seat better. Then there shouldn't be any slack in the switch.
 
I put the new plugs in the carb today. It runs even worse now?
Just want to make sure they are in the right holes.
Everything that I found tells me the plugs should be in the two holes opposite of the pilot, leaving the pilot jet open on the Phazer II, Is this right?
 
Thanks mrviper, I will give it a try again, I have a printout that I found saying the opposite.
Phazer I open and Phazer II pluged?

Glad I found this thread with the pic. I just double checked the carbs from my 91 I just cleaned and reassembled according to the service manual, and I had the pilot jet uncovered. Had the center and right holes plugged
