Does the impeller free spin. There is a gear on the crank that spins the impeller.
take the impellar off and inspect the splines on the inner side!! If they are rounded somewhat ,then u need another one as it is bad, just by spinning it wont work because when the coolant gets hot the splines expand and then it will slip!It may not slip being cold,Thats they way mine was anyway! Its just the one bolt ,,pop it off and look at it If it appears to be good then its your gear on the crank that is bad..good luck!

Yammy, I'll probably be taking that impeller off today. I took that one center bolt off but looks like ill need to pry it out or something. Seemed kinda in there good still. Thanks

I took out the center bolt but cant seem to wiggle the thing off. I don't want to pry it or mark it all up. Suggestions on pulling the impeller out without messing up the fins and stuff?

UPDATE: REALLY PUMPED! I got new impeller(s) and a new head gasket to replace the one that had some metal showing. Tore apart the whole thing myself for the first time and followed directions on putting back together with the head torque diagram and a torque wrench. Finally got it all buttoned up, motor mounts on, whole exhgaust back on, and antifreeze again. Pulled it over and she fired and sounded awesome again. I was so excited and proud because I took something apart and back together and it still worked haha. I proceeded to drag the heavy guy out of the garage and without the seat ripped around after it warmed up. All the exchangers are warm and I rode the old sled hard for 20 min without it overheating so thats a good sign. I had a HUGE GRIN on my face the whole time. I love hearing the SNO stuf can again echoing off the barns! We will see if I fixed it but for now Im just happy to ride it again. Thanks everyone for your help!

I knew you could do it this stuff isn't that hard to work on if you have a service manual and it really helps when you have a forum like this to ask questions.

Yea it isn't hard but I just always wonder if I'm doing one small thing wrong or something. I hope you can't kill a motor by putting the head back on wrong or something. Thanks for your help Eric. Might have to come visit you up there sometime. It was a good time. Help you work on that inviter maybe? I'll ride it longer tonight in the melting snow and see if I get the temp light

So an update, the water pump began to leak over summer and turns out the mechanical seal can't be put back in and has to be replaced I guess. The water pump is all fixed. My left foot heat exchanger is cracked and leaking too. Front exchanger is very loose and all gaskets need to be replaced.
