Rebuilding a SRX700

I don't like the idea of right stuff for the cases but it's yours not mine. Those markings on the cases are so you know you have the matching set. You can't mix up case halves, they need to be used as a set.

That makes sense for the cases. Why not using right stuff?


Did you tear into carbs again yet? I am curious to what if anything you found in the screens.

No I did not. I was focusing on the ``big job`` first. I'll let you know if I find something. Now the engine is in place, as well as the chaincase, primary and secondary sheave. I'm just waiting for my cylinder and pistons. I'll open up the carbs soon and maybe rejet one size bigger than stock. I want to play it safe now, I don't want to be on the lean side. What do you all think?
 
I don't remember off the top of my head what 99 jetting is. A lot of guys go to 01 stock jetting as they say its the most forgiving. Altitude and temps you ride in are a factor as well. Take a look at whats in there (may not be stock anymore) and report back.
 
Hi, I got the engine running yesterday! I wanted to bleed the coolant with the bleeding hole near the pto cylinder, but no coolant coming from here, even with the engine running. Why?

I ran the engine with the back of the snowmobile on a stand and I was looking at throttle response. Seemed good except at idle. When at idle, giving full throttle very fast and I was able to make it die, like if it was cold but it was running for more than 10 minutes. Jetting from pto; 146-146-148 and 42.5 for the pilots. Fuel screw were 1 1/8 turns out. So I took the carbs and losen the pilots to 2 turns out. Seemed way better, but still I think it can be more responsive. Should I go with 3 turns? Idle is at 1800. Plus the temps are warm outside, so it should be running rich now, not lean.

Well then happened something scary...I was riding it around the house a little and it started to loss power and...backfiring. Go in the garage again. PTO cylinder not working. Removed the spark plug and there were unidentified chunks on it. :whine: Pulled the powervalve to check the piston, looked good. Back to the spark plug, removed the little chunks...right stuff chunks, like silicone. Oufff...I really hope it's that, coming from the crankase, it should makes sense.

I'll put a new spark plug and see how it goes...stay tuned.
 
i have seen that before, people go a little heavy on the sealer and it comes off after a little use. usually its not a problem.
 
Nice job, I had the same problem as you and am rebuilding my motor right now. It happened on my first outing of the year and blew 2 pistons and a cylinder. Initially thought I have water in my gas, but since being on this site have learned the hard way what dirty carbs can do. I'm waiting for my gasket kit to arrive and found out my clutch was cracked so am in the process of getting one from a member on this site. Tech forums has been a real eye opener for me. Happy to see your machine is up and running. BTW where do you ride in QC, I'm in Mascouche north of Mtl.
 
Salut! sad for your SRX, so did you check your carbs after it blew?? found something wrong? mine had the pilot jet clogged on the cylinder that blew, well I hope this is the real reason cause I didn't found anything else. Now it is running pretty good, but maybe I'll try going a little richer on the jets. On the video it was like 0 degrees celcius, I will ride on average temps I guess like 0 to -20 so... And yes this forum is very usefull, that is the beauty of internet.

The only thing that I miss now is snow! I hope we will have a big snowstorm soon! I'm in LaPrairie, South shore of Montréal, not far from you. Good luck rebuilding the engine.
 
Thanks, just opened my carbs for cleaning, lots of old dryed gas at the bottom of bowls and jets seemed dirty. I was just wondering what to adjust my fuel screws to? I've got them at 1 and 7/8 turn, my machine is piped and has 2x47,5 and 1x48,3 main jets, not sure of the other jets. Was running real nice last year and started super strong this year (was lean) before the burn out. I should get the engine done by the weekend, but working graveyard shifts til monday next week so won't be able to ride before next week. Trails look great on the north shore even with the warmer weather we had been getting. Snow will certainly help for sure. Bye and bonne ride!
