oil pump question

I pulled the plugs on my viper and they are caked black so I checked my cable and it is at 32mm! I thought the further apart the leaner it was? It is supposed to be 20-22 mm correct??
 
I can't get the cable tight enough to get it to 20-22? I am using a caliper to measure the cable but I would screw the adjuster right off trying to get 20-22
 
Are you using an OEM cable? Are you measuring the gap (lack of cable housing) when you pull the bottom section out of the adjuster and gently pull it apart? Your comment about screwing adjuster off suggests your measuring it wrong.
 
That is exactly how I'm doing it maybe I am pulling too hard on the cable? It is a stock machine. Should I just pull apart until I feel tension?

Factory cable? Reason I ask is aftermarket cable you throw the stock number out the window, as it doesn't apply. If its a OEM cable and you can pull it apart that far I would be takeing a good look at the oil pump/ pump arm. Something is hankey
 
As your pulling it apart the pump arm should be moving. Pump arm should be full swing while measuring. At 32mm gap is should be screaming lean on oil as pump arm wouldn't even start to move until like half throttle........makes no sense to black caked plugs.
 
That might be the case as those pumps go full open when they fail internally. I have a few of those in that condition on hand, but there is very little demand for them :roll:
