I have an turbo RX1 with a completely shattered bulkhead. It seems that this is a weak link in that model. Has anyone come up with a stronger front bulkhead and a-arms that can be modified into that sled.
Or
Other than a Nytro, (Nytros are still high priced with fairly good engines) what sled is a good candidate for an engine swap?
I see a lot of low priced older Mach Zs with blown engines.
suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated.
 
Check out the bulkhead saver / repair kits offered by hibshman25 on the www.ty4stroke.com side. Just remember that stronger A-arms can contribute to a broken bulkhead because they don't give.

I would also check out snowest.com to see what the Mtn guys might have created to strengthen the bulkhead.

Thanks I have seen the bulkhead saver It would not have helped. My bulkhead is completely destroyed.
I have heard that many times give up the a arms to save the bulkhead.
My background is in dirt bikes, 4x4 and sand rails. I just lately got into sleds.
Why do we need to sacrifice any part of a sled at all. It seems with a little work and engineering someone can come up with a light weight sled that can handle being slammed into rocks and stumps.
That is why I am looking into putting this power plant into a different sled.

That bulkhead lacks the ductility to withstand breaking when it deforms and lacks the strength to resist deforming. Even worse the geometry is not absorbing the loads in the plane they are applied which tends to force the spindles back deforming the arms and crushing the bulkhead. I would fabricate a welded aluminum or thin wall 4130 tube frame bulkhead which has the front wishbone mounting point at least 16* to 24* higher than the rear point.

A Yamaha will handle those better than any other breed. (they are built stronger),,,,,


So,, skip the transplant, dump the RX Turbo and buy a D-8,,, it won't be as fast but will put up with your driving style.....

WOW, I just read this and like he said with his background snowmobiling is just that "SNOW" !
It sounds like he's riding in some marginal snow cond. at best.You just need better snow but I agree
with what was said that Yamaha is a better built sled than the rest of the manufactures !!!! I'm not just
talking out my ars because I've totaled six sleds in my day and wrecked a few too. Put your mind to it
and fab. up your own heavy skid plate for them rocks but if jump ship you won't be happy

It was chest deep early season light powder. Typical snow up here in the Rockies above 10000 ft. Oh I am 6'5" so I guess it was about 5ft-7ft deep.
You know the type of show when you stop a 164 track will sink about 2ft-3ft.
I wouldn't have though that to be marginal but I guess it was.
I have several different models and brands and I really like the power of the turbo RX1 engine.
I think we are going to do some pipe bending and some tig welding to make our own bulk head. Possibly complete tube frame. I will see what time I have this fall season.
