Vmax's vs cold Chicago weather and vmax vs srx

I took my 95 and 96 vmax's out today and they ran fairly poorly and I chalk it up to the weather it was something like -12 -30/50 wind chill. I assume the jetting was all wrong. We were only chugging along today wasn't out for full out racing around. Just out cruising drift breaking and enjoy our unusual amount of snow. Anyway, I was just curious of how much differently the srx would of run today being as they have the heated carbs. I know it prolly doesn't do much as far as the super cold air the sleds were inhaling today. I didn't have the srx out today. As I said I'm just curious if the heated carbs would of helped the performance of the sleds in the cold today.

I had a 95 600 a few years ago and ran it in Wisconsin when the morning it was -30 and a hot of -19 and it ran fine. Carbs clean?

100 percent sure one sleds carbs were clean. I just did them. I've ridden both sleds the past few days and they ran really well. Today in the frigid they ran poorly. Other than the temps nothing was changed. Neither are jetted for this cold. Would that make a tremendous difference? It's only two jet sizes difference from -20 to -30. Not saying the carbs didn't get gummed up overnight. Definitely ran like they were dirty. Not sure when I'll go back out again. Curious to see if if and when the weather warms up if they run better. If not I'll pop the carbs off and clean me again.

hmmmm. yammys usually run better in the extreme cold and worse when its warmer, I believe you have other issues! They were probably icing up due to the snow dust.

Ya I agree with the icing. Very dusty snow and the carbs looked white I'm sure it was just icing up. That's why I was wondering about the srx with the heated carbs

I've herd mixed things about heated carbs, (and really want to try them) most say they help but I think all together its almost a rare occurrence having the carbs freeze up. Some say they can help richen the mixture a hair on those bitterly cold days. We had (1 out of 2) of our 97 700's freeze up the other day, for the first time ever. Temp was about -15 busting through deep powder. Started fouling plugs, super rich. Weird thing was the other 97 ran totally fine. Both sleds have fresh fuel, powder pre-filters, same pipes and jetting should be good down till about -40. We think what happened is the one that froze up was started up and drove out of the trailer, around the yard one time and then sat for a few minutes shut off before we started our ride where the other one was just started up and ran the whole time...? Just must have been the perfect mix of things to happen (warmed up just enough+bunch of snow dust)but carbs were frosted over white. We put on about 250 miles last week before this at about the same temp, maybe colder and no problems? I Just picked up a set of heated carbs to try out because one of the sleds has a 98 head on it with the coolant nipple for it already. Going to put them on as soon as I get the right water-pump cover.
