long tracked viper what aftermarket skis?

the Yamaha mountain skis are pretty good and not too expensive either. brother had a set on his viper and loved them.

I ride groomed trails most of the time but have 5 miles of fields to get through to get to the trail. Im looking for a skis that will float good in deep snow and bite on the trail. My stock ones seem to do alright on the trail but suck in deep snow.
 
Skis are somewhat based on personal preference but i would say a good crossover ski is what you need. I think the best bang for your buck would be slp powderpros or curve xs skis. C&a's are good to but overpriced. I run yamaha mtn skis on my warrior with 8" duallys and they work very well, And doo precisions on my vmax which work decent. All these skis Ive actually tried so I cant say anything about the rest.
 
I really loved the 8" wide C&A MTX's on my boosted apex mtx, and 6" wide adx on the 121's
but I have the slp powder pros on my Pro RMK and really like them too...but the mtx does have more bite on the trail
 
Slydog Powder Hound skis work great on a stretched Viper. Just the right amount of bite on trail and flotation off trail. I ran some 6" Shaper carbide wear rods with great results with my old stretched Viper.

The Powder pro3 work GREAT with the 144" Hartman kit, unstudded though.
 
How is your ski pressure now with the stock skis? I went with a very aggressive front end as once you long track ski pressure seems to be the problem with rail extensions. I have no idea how mine ran with stock skis as i went right to the c & a razors. I have been able to loosen the front up a lot and the rear with these skis. I am running c & a razors with 8" bergstrom tripple points. THese skis and carbides are great. No darting able to run skid as light as i want, float great in the powder that we do ride. If anything i would go down on the 8" but im not running studs. Also the c&a razors have a rep of being heavy to steer but no problems here. The wife rides same set up and no complaints of heavy steering and she loves the fact that they are point and shoot. No darting and hold the corners like on rails. Just my experience with these and this set up. chris
 
I have a nice set of black simmons flexi ski dual carbide skis for sale. The do pretty well in the powder as well as on the trail. Let me know if interested.
 
I just use the least aggressive 6" shaper bars on my pro, but I just slay pow with that sled so trail handling means little to me!

With your setup a 8" 60 degree would be better with a studded track
 
I like the Yamaha Mtn ski ahead of the Powder Pro both on trail and in the powder. This is on a 146x16 Viper with a Nytro XTX skid in it. Some of the others are even more aggressive on trail and float as well or better then the Yamaha Mtn, but I haven't had enough seat time in the powder with these others to compare them. The only real downside to the Yamaha Mtn ski is that in deep snow with a crust on top they catch real bad. All skis do this, but these are really pronounced. You have to be ready for it. For all other conditions the Yamaha Mtn is an very good ski.
 
i used a set of slydog powder hounds on my sxr last winter and they worked good on and off the trail. that sled being a trail sled, you could really tell that the front floated waaaay better in the deeper stuff.
 
Never had any issues on a 136 rx1 when it comes to the powder pros. Havnt heard much of anything of the usi TT. It looks like there gona run you close to $600 going by the price on there site though.
 
Looks like im going to go with the powder pros then. They are not a bad price when you look at them... I can't see myself spending $600+ on a pair of skis.
