does anyone know what could have wrecked the bearings in my chain tensioner? i took the chaincase cover off, took out the gears and chain/tensioner and cleaned it all good. put it back together, filled the case with trans. fluid. i put about 200 miles on it after that. i took it back apart to take out my skid for shock rebuilding and the chain tensioner bearing is gone. enough that it chowed up my gears a little. did i put it together wrong? has this ever happened to anyone else? i want to make sure it doesnt happen again. thanks

just mileage, I have replaced them before in sleds. Not super common but more then 5 or 6 in the last 5-8yrs, so its somewhat normal.
just put a new one in it and youll be good to go for a long time.

should add also, when you put the new bearing in the roller, put some good wheel bearing grease on it, and then add the 2 end seals.

i bought a whole new tensioner, it was cheaper than a new bearing. from an o4 viper with 3000 miles. thats what he told me anyway.

ya i think the whole thing,roller,bearing,2 seals is like $40-45 from yamaha.
when you get your new one, just take off the clip, pull the pin and remove roller, pop out 1 of the seals carefully and grease the bearing, reinstall and they last thousands upon thousands of miles.

I'm doing the same thing myself. There are no seals. Bearing goes in the roller with a washer on each side. Tech manual says to change the pin with the bearing since it is the inner race.
