When I bought the sled last spring the speedo wasn't working. So I found the speedo gear box stripped so I replaced it and the little shaft thingy. Go for a ride and it works great for 10 mins then no speedo again and the odometer is way off scale. So I decide to try a new cable. Same thing?? Well it must be the speedo itself as it is the only freakin thing left. I found a brand new dash cluster on ebay with 0 miles so I pick it up. Install it this morning and go for a rip and gues what same freakin thing!!! I take the cable off the speedo and fire the sled up on the stand and the cable is spinning with the throttle. So I take everything apart again and make sure everything is ok and it appears to be. So I put it all back together and fire the sled up on the stand and the speedo works ok again. I'm guessing it will do the same thing it has the first three times and quit working after about 10 minutes. Has anyone else had weird issues like this??

gotta be the insert is spinning in the drivehshaft, its the only thing you have not replaced, you might be able to just "stake" it with a cold chisel around the outside edges of it.

It did it again tonight, funny how it only happens after about ten minutes of riding. What do you mean by "stake it"?

you go around the outside of the insert that in the end of the driveshaft and hit the edge of it into the driveshaft with the chisel, your trying to dent the edge in not cut it off. what it will do is make the 2 pcs of steel lock together as it will expand the insert into the driveshaft metal causing a interferance fit, I would do this several times around it and try it.

Well the speedo doesn't matter much anymore, the crank blew out the case and clutch side cylinder, parting out an excellent condition 97 sx700(except for the motor).
