I have a minor 5-5500 burble going on but otherwise running strong '97 700SX..these thave about 1,000 miles on them and are in order as you face the engine from the front bumper...replaced with Deso Iridium.

I've also noticed my drive train is abit noisy once the unit starts to move. I'm not sure how much of it is normal though..just finished a 40 mi. solo run in 90 minutes and as I'm going thru the wilderness alone I realize the drive train is noisy..got back check the outside 4 wheels for hot, chaincase for hot..it all was good fuel milage for trip was about 3 gallons so thats good too.

Comments please.

Look a little lean to me...better clean those carbs! LOL! Seriously they do look a little lean to me. What are you running octane? And what for oil? Have you kept track of how much oil per gallon your using?

not trying to thread hijack, but what does octane have to do with the look of plugs? will higher octane make it lean or rich?

Center and left have a chalky ashy greyish tip. Right is border line. This could be due to what flavor oil he is running. I preffer a darker plug with more coloring on the threads as well...this could be oil as well. Octane rating is the ability to burn. Lower octane is a hotter/leaner burn higher octane is a cooler/richer burn.

great info! reason i ask is because i recently fouled my pto plug when i ran a tank of shell v power. along with other factors that was the missing piece to the puzzle as to why it did.
as for the plugs, they do look a little dry for trail ridding, but not too bad. take a look at your piston wash. plugs and piston wash go together like peanut butter and jam when it comes to tuning an engine.
 
Mystic full synthetic..91 non-ethanol..marine stabil.

this was the first 40mi. run since the heavy ATF stow process..
 
Blown engine '97 SX700 @4800 mi.... 27mi. into the run today.

Engine just quit ..was crusing trough trail 20-30 mph..it was getting oil about a pint down..after a minute I pulled it started for a sec. then locked down tite.

Solo breakdown..What a PIA good thing I had cell coverage and a bud that answered.
 
took it to a good independent repair shop here..he'll tear into Monday...weird it was running so well...I just put the iridium plugs in..hope that wasn't it.
