I have a 1999 700 redhead in a venture. It seems to use a sh!t load of gas compared to my 2000 vmax 700. Vmax gets around 8mpg. Venture gets about half. What are most people seeing for mileage for these engines? What's the best way to test for proper mixture? How can I lean it out if it is indeed running too rich? Thanks

They are bone stock motors. Nothing binding in the driveline that would cause drag on the operation

I got around 13 stock with a can. and 7-9 with triple pipes.

Do you know what your oil to fuel ratio is? if you need less oil you make the slack in your oil cable bigger I think its supposed to be 19-21mm. If your to fat in the midrange you drop the needles. If your to fat wot you change your mains. You will have to do plug readings to know if your fat or lean. Have you looked into your clutching the redheads had a problem with overreving from the factory you should be around 8400-8500 rpms max. Anything more and your losing power and wasting fuel.
8500 sounds about right. Ill pay more attention to it next time I ride it

What's your temperature and elevation? I am at sea level to 2600 ft and get temperatures to -20C or -4F. I always ran 40 pilots raise the needle clip one position ( drop needles) and 140,138,138 mains. This will change with elevation, temperature and humidity in other regions so judge accordingly.

I heard a lot of guys running 142.5 mains across with the needles dropped a half a clip position. I always found dropping the pilots made a big difference also.
