I agree with using Vmaxjohn's setup. Johnny had that same sled and with his tuning it was really quick up to 70. Amazed a lot of SRX guys back then.
 
your rollers are probably bad ,change those if they are. drop your needles down one notch for better gas milage, make sure theres nothing binding in the clutches ,check all bushings including the sec. and the glides on the helix cam...
 
Does anybody know which gear i will need to gear down? Im not sure how many teeth are on the stock gear at this time. It's never been messed with. Also wheres a good place to buy a new gear and does anything else other than new fluid need to be changed when swapping this gear out? Gaskets or seals?
 
Stock is 22 top for that year. Some later years came with 21 stock. I have never been certain where the setup in the tech section started out before they "dropped one tooth". I dropped to 21 for a couple years then last year dropped it to 20. You need a shorter chain to use the 20. Top speed loss is minimal. I run out of gears at 99 mph on speedo with the 20 and one time saw 102 on speedo with the 21 in there. The conditions are so rare to be able to pull that kind of speed in day to day trail riding that it makes no sense for me to be any higher than the 20 on top. I will tell you if you try to buy a new 20 at the dealer you will find that they are no longer available. I had my dealer do a search of dealers that still had some in there stock and there were still a few last year. I personally contacted one and had it shipped to me.

I am currently using 46/42 helix since know one had a 47/41 when I was looking and it was close. I believe the 47//41 would be a little better. I recently went with a Tall primary cover so I could get a little higher engagement and the short standard cover limits your choices. I am using a B-G-B spring. I have the 2.4 gram rivets in the tip and .8 in the center, I will be changing out the center to a 2.4 as soon as I get the time since I am over revving some in mid shift with this spring. These engines do not have a lot a lot of power on the low end to take off strong,
 
I am also using the green secondary spring at 80 twist currently but that could change a little when I up the center rivot to 2.4

I ordered the 47/41 helix and the .8 rivets and the new main jets. Just gotta pull the case apart and see what gears I have and see what I can do with that. Thanks for letting me know where what you've tried and whats working for you. Works been busy so I don't know how long it's gonna take me to perform these upgrades and run the sled. But I will write back with my experience with my upgrades. At what point do you reach too many RPMs? Or whats the max RPM I should see?
 
I start out at 7700 to 7800 thru about 45 or 50mph then it continues up a little past 8000 thru about 85 to 90 then settles back to about 7800 to full shift in high 90s mph. These are all speedo numbers. Conditions will move these numbers up or down as well. Don't expect to see more than 90mph in a good % of snow conditions. I am not certain that me going to a 2.4 in the center won't be a little too much. I may need to drill it out a little. Every sled is a little different. So the set ups in here will just get you close to something that works great. You will most likely need to change it a little. Rivets and springs are fairly cheap. Do some testing and it will work out great,
 
My dad took the sled for a ride today with all the new upgrades. I asked him a ton of questions and of course he had no answers. But he said it did do 80mph before he ran out of room and had to get out of it. He also said he thought it was faster than the 600 xtc now. I'm hoping to do a test run myself sometime soon so I can see whats going on at what RPM and such. But so far it sounds like the vmaxjhon setup is a win win. I will have to debate weather or not to jump another tooth with a smaller chain.
 
Good to here it seems to be running better. I really did not notice a big difference when I dropped one tooth, but gears are cheap enough and you will nearly never see conditions to pull the top gearing so it may still be worth it.

I'll second that. All of the fun for me is 0-50. Tree to tree, fence line to fence line,drift to drift. And the snappier the better, providing there's enough meat on the track to get the power to the ground.
