Down to the last couple problems

1998 SRX700 with low miles that had been wrecked that I bought cheap and have been working the bugs out. The only 2 things not working electrically are the tach' and the fuel gauge. I literally can't see the wire colors in the GY shop manual that I have because the writings so damn small. And I couldn't find troubleshooting for the tach, anyway.

All wiring from the connectors by the primary up the hood to the dash pod have been reworked and confirmed as good to go. Where else would I look for damaged wiring, fuses, anything possibly relate to these 2 problems? Thanks!
 
can test it with a ohm meter its the yellow and the yellow black on the big plug coming out of stator i believe its in the 6 wire plug
 
My fuel gauge was not working, I just cleaned the main ground and it fixed the problem! On my 1999, it is located behind the powervalve servo motor. Your servo motor is not located at the same place since it is a 1998. It should be on the frame if you look above the secondary.
 
My lights are working perfectly fine and so are the grips and everything else. I'll rework the main ground and check the yellow and yellow/black. Am I looking for a voltage change or some kind of resistance reading?

Wait, if those wires are the stator, I'm good. What wires are for the tachometer and where do they originate?

Ok, I cleaned up the chassis ground wire connection at the frame just above the voltage regulator (left knee area) and it made no difference at all, so I ran a second ground wire right off the tach pod and the tach came to life. Still no gas gauge so I know I have ground wire issue somewhere else but I checked all the wiring along the tubular frame from the voltage regulator area up and over to the grip temp controls, up and down the handle bars and to the key.

Where. Else. Could it be? !!! o.O
 
Pulled the pipes and looked around; couldn't see anything obvious so I disconnected the wires that go under the motor from where they plug in and head up to the dash pod, then I pulled them right on out from under the motor and found the yellow wire partially through and a brown wire completely cut through. Fixed both of those and now the bright lights are working awesome, and the oil indicator light went out so I assume that's what the brown wire was for. Confident it will come back on when oil gets low.

So, it's all systems go except the gas gauge still reads empty all the time so that's all I need to figure out. Anyone in here know which color wires I should trace for the gas gauge system? Any other ideas what to look for or test with my meter? Thanks!

green and black is the wire....check in your fuel tank to make sure the float is not stock at the bottom of the tank ......u can see the wire behind the air box if my memory is good ...u should see some reading on your gauge if u ground the green/black wire to the chassis ...but check first in your fuel tank for the float ...
 
OK, thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. Also, anyone know if there should be washer spacer options on the secondary? I just tore that apart because my belt rides pretty high on it (maybe a 1/16") and the primary is rubbing on the belt at idle more than my other SRX's. I want to insert a spacer between the sheaves to drop the belt just a bit, but after splitting the secondary I didn't find spare washers like I expected.
 
u have 3 bolts behind the secondary sheave ,maybe they are missing ?this is what control how tight they close together
