cleaning stator on 97 600 twin

So, can the stator be cleaned without taking anything more than the pipe off? I have low headlight output, and I suspect the stator is rusty or the pickups are dirty. I was thinking about trying to spray electrical contact cleaner in the access home, then using a shop vac to clean it out? Or do you have to take the cover of and use a scotch Brite?

Take the cover off and use the scotchbrite, you'll get way better results. I did this to my 700 a couple years ago and the difference was impressive. I've been asked a more than a few times what I did, to get the light so bright.

So do you have to pull the stator to do that?
