Hey can i use 2 - 1mm shims for the secondary sheave? Or only 1 -1mm per bolt?

The book says .5 or 1.0mm - i need to use 2 - 1mm shims per bolt since my belt is sitting too low.

My cheap caliper died, and i ended up putting 3 1mm washers and now just to say i can feel 8dn belt ribs, tried it quickly and she has way more snap now, even on the stand she would pickup real nice as to before she would bog a little and go.. Anybody have a pic of how it should sit on the secondary?

How old is the belt? Also check the tips on the bolt and see if they are worn down. Compare with a new one to see.

Are those bots supposed to have a somewhat pointy tip? Mine are flat and i compared to a spare clutch that had them and they look the same

What's the belt height look like if youleave the screws out?

She was sunk in real low.. And before i touched anything the belt felt tight but no squealing etc.. Rubber marks on the secondary tho?

the bottom of the belt ribs should be just about even with the top of the sheaves. a little trick that i do is simply set the belt to the secondary while the secondary is off the machine. quicker and easier than going back and forth, belt on, belt off, secondary on, off, etc. just drape the belt over the secondary and see where it rides. all this is on the assumption your center to center is good between the clutches.

the adjuster bolts are flat tipped when new, but they do wear by design. theres also a plate between the sheaves that those bolt tips ride against that can wear indents from the bolts. if you have alot of miles, you may check the plate. quick fix if its worn is to remove it and turn it over smoothing out any ridges before re-securing it.

the washer thicknesses are optional for setting the deflection. sometimes you need a full 1mm, sometimes only the .5, sometimes both together or even more. i have stacked several in racing applications, but i wouldnt recommend it in your application. the more washer, the closer the sheaves, the higher the belt. higher belt=tighter deflection. you get the idea.

I got 3 1 mm washers so far, and the perfomance seems to have improved.. Snowdad thanks for the tips about the plates etc.. Would you happen to have a pic of proper belt height? Ill try to take one this weekend
