as to your question on temp code flashing with tps code on.on our viper it worked with tps flashing.it had broken wire to switch.fixed that still working on tps seems no one knows the source voltage.I was going to test tps as you did problem I am having is testing that way to my way of thinking is it would show if reostat is working.as I asked when I highjacked your earlier post.if I could find input voltage or at least what it should be I think I think I could resolve my problem.I hope my answer to your question on temp light eases your mind.

I think I can answer your question...
When tested mine, I did it per instructions in service manual and other threads. I made the little tester thing and all. When I hooked the tester up, it showed 0 volts no matter if I advanced the throttle or not... even tried moving the tps back and forth... nothing... This tells me that, somewhere in the TPS, there is an open... When I manually try to move the TPS part that hooks onto the carb (the reostat part), it's very rough and makes a lot of scratching and such noises... like something physical is broke on the inside of my tps... so I guess my TPS is bad... oh well...
After I realized this, I started playing around on how I can "fake" the TPS signal to the computer to shut off the light... becuase It's just annoying at this point. I figured if I could get anywhere betweek .1 - 5 volts to the "output wire" it would fake it out and seem like it's working. The way I understand it is there are 3 wires.... Input voltage, output voltage, and ground. Obviously the output voltage is changed as the "reostat" is turned while throttle is advanced. I would have guessed the input voltage would have been 12 - 14 volts and I would just put a regulator on it to bring it to 5. I was wrong. When I measured the input voltage (the voltage send from the computer to the TPS) and it read under 5 volts... 4.8 I think... I tried just "jumping" the input and output's and that didn't work.
So I guess the answer to your question, from what I understand you are asking (and assuming the computer isn't sending the wrong voltage)... is roughly 4.8 volts. Tomorrow I can start her up and remeasure the voltage if you like and give you an exact value...
Going riding later this week... hopefully the wife won't get too annoyed with the light. Come spring... that sled is either parted out, sold, or thrown in the back of the barn as a backup "beater" sled.

Dcf1999 I would appreciate if you could do that for me.I am having problem getting a constant reading from input.the original tps got broken while running.I am trying to eliminate the cdi being somehow shorted and not supplying voltage.not sure if it would just kill voltage to tps and not affect other functions of cdi.also temp wire was broken at same time.that is how when I repaired it I could answer your question on temperature gauge working while tps light flashing. I hope light does not bother your wife.the problem with it flashing is you tend to ignore it and it flashes a different code at same time you or she might not realize it as you may assume its just tps.not sure how to ask her to keep an eye on it without her getting paranoid.dont give up on the machine you are getting your problems solved.my thought on tps is to buy a carb rack with tps on it if it is not cdi.I am sure I can get one cheaper than tps.if still flashing then we have spare cdi I can install.if carb rack solves problem it may be an option for you.it goes without saying I will go through carbs before installing.I have machine piped and jetted.I will install it first then change the jets or remove tps and install on my rack.this is first real problem I cant figure out.put this machine together from 3 totaled machines in 08.have had yammies since1972 always very reliable and trouble free.

Yea I love yamaha... all my toys (sleds and ATV's are yamahas)...
I ran sled and the voltage I got was a 4.9 at first... but leveled out at 4.88 volts. Held it on there for a bit and it stayed at 4.88 volts.
Yea I worry about her ignoring it (more so because she's a woman and tends to ingnore important stuff like that )... so now I'm thinking I'll ride the POS (my nickname for the 600) and she can ride my baby (my nickname for the 700) just so I can keep an eye on the light.... I shouldn't complain though... I'm still riding!
Anyways... I'm know I'm not going to give up on the 600... I'm too cheap to get rid of a sled with a few issues that can be fixed. I'll still buy a newer one for myself and give the 700 to her. I'll just keep this one for a buddy who wants to ride but doesn't have a sled. Plus, you can never have enough toys! I already threw a bunch of money into it... why not a little more and make it perfect... I was more just venting in the previous posts. It pisses me off when I aquire something and find out previous maintenance was very shotty. I'll probably break down this summer and just buy a new TPS or a carb rack like what you were saying. The plus side to buying the whole carb rack is now you have a spair set of carbs. If during the winter they gum up for some reason... It's a quick swap and you can keep riding and rebuild the other set for a backup.

I appreciate the info on voltage.I will let you know how I make out on the carb rack.may be sometime this week I hope.if it stops the flashing light.I know I read that you want to see .75 to .80 volts out.I would like to see at what rpm I see that voltage.then see how much it changes through rpm.I read and assume it will read .75 to .80 at 1500 to 1600 rpm.I will need my son to operate throttle and hold hood to read tach.thanks again.wow just checked price of 600 tps 256. mine for viper 143 these are from yamaha site of course.I knew price for mine but for 600 wow.we also have a 600xtc.

update I install used tps and tps code not flashing.I think cdi is ok.still not sure why I could not get base voltage when testing.I will probably play with it before end of season.hope yours is working ok.I also bought a carb rack with tps so if this one craps out I will do as I said.I will clean and install them so as not to disturb tps now on it.
