Just thinking out loud, but has anyone ever thought about an apex with an srx triple in it? would be a lighter sled than either I would think? nice ride with the srx power? could it be done? has anyone done it? anybody know what the weights are on the ape engine vs the 700 2s? weights on the chassis without the engine in it? maybe turn the cylinders around on the case, and run the pipes out under the seat? what do you think? humor me.

That would be a sweet ride if you could pull it off with an SRX engine in a modern chassis and suspension. I would imagine that the exhaust would be the biggest challenge after looking under the hood of an Apex. A SRX engine in a Rev would be pretty sweet I would think, but I think that would be a tight fit to.

I'm just hoping they come out with a new SRX in the viper body but as a 2 stroke 800 or 900 triple. With triple pipes some how. That would be a sled I would buy.

I've always wanted to build a mxzx 440 with a Srx triple...would be a fun sled!

But if yamaha made a new Srx, with a 1200 direct injected triple, long travel ohlins suspension and incorporating the bulged hood design into the new sled...would be a runaway success!

A guy can dream can't he! Bhaha

Only way your gona get a 2 stroke yamaha at this point is to get a cat and put the viper panels on it

let's not get this to new Srx again, and 4 strokes bla bla bla.. please, there are so many forum about it!

Let's continue with the apex with the triple in it, would really love to see this also, would be a blast

hope to see some others comment about it

if people have fit tripples in revs, fx phazers, and firecats then it shouldnt be to hard at all to put one in the apex chassis/body. you could have an airbox in the rear where exhaust would be. Lots of room for carbs. So much room to use if you think about the airbox, battery, oil tank, etc being took out

Ya know I think what makes the srx is the chassis its in. They work so well because all the pieces work together. They're slung low, a little rough on the bumps but on a nice trail they can be right scary, they corner like a f1, pull like a freight train and sound awesome and for the age these sleds still kick ***. I've yet to see a homemade conversion that looked like it was original, there is always something that had to be altered which cosmetically ruined the appearance which ultimately made it look like it belonged in the wreckers. Exhaust is generally the issue and then ultimately you have ruined atleast one if not both sleds. The concept is nice but let's face it 4 strokes are where it's at. These apex's with big turbos are king hands down. They get big mileage excellent fuel consumption and the list goes on. Ya wouldn't put a old corvette motor in a new corvette.
Just my opinion guys and honestly i don't see any gains to be had and torque and horsepower are both higher in the 4 stroke.

I have a rx warrior same engine except its carbed. Even though it has more hp (145-150) it just doesnt "feel" as fast and peppy as the ol 2 smoke. Its a torqy and smooth pull that im honestly not a fan of.

what does an apex engine weigh? I would think the transplant woud be 75- 100 lbs lighter when you think of all the extra fat you would trim from the apex, electric start, battery, ecu, extra wiring involved, etc.

I would think you would end up with an apex that was at least 100lbs lighter, with the same HP. or is the apex engine not that heavy? with the battery, electric start, wiring etc that would be removed.

You will have to ride one ........ just as fast and longer legs by far..... if that's not enougth give it some boost. ...4 stroks rule in the now days setup .............

I don't know about the apex, but when I was at my dealership I went over to a fully fueled SX Viper Ltx and tried to pick the front end up. I was just barely able to pull the sag out of the shocks and even at that I almost left my nuts on the floor in front of it. After the weight diet on my mountain max, I can pick the skis off the ground to slide the front end up against the side of the garage when I park it and that's with 12 gallons of gas in it, electric start and reverse. Only major weight reduction to the front end was the light weight battery and race can. I would think an apex with a 4th cylinder would be MUCH heavier than a pull start SRX mill.

Big waste of time.

Be like putting a Z11 into a ZO6.

Would not do either justice in the end.

awe come on ops, wheres yer sense of adventure? was just thinking out loud is all guys, after 160 miles on my srx last saturday, found myself needing more suspension, so, next year it will be upgrade time, weather it be a new skid, and front long travel in the srx or a used apex. I am lucky to put on 1000 miles, and find it hard to justify 4g or more for a sled, thats what got me thinking about the transplant idea, as I know a guy with an 07 ape with a junk mill in it.

If ya can get the apex with bad motor I'd buy it and part the srx and go get a good used motor for the apex. You won't regret it,of course this is just my opinion . The pros of the four stroke far outweigh the cons. There was a time I thought I'd never go four stroke but after a buddy got one and I see the real advantage, not having to listen to the motor as your riding and worrying about bad fuel, easier cold starts,no more pulling ,reliability that exceeds any two stroke the list goes on and let's face it those apex's sound awesome and work awesome. Don't get me wrong I love my srx but ya gotta draw that line. I absolutely hate wrenching, I'd rather be riding . Again just my opinion.

Exactly.

Note that the apex chassis is very heavy. Throwing an srx motor in it will make it lose weight, but there would be no room for pipes.

with some suspension upgrades and a different seat your srx can ride just as good as an apex, point and case:

seating position is much better and it takes the bumps a hell-uv-alot better!
With that said, over on the TH4stroke site, there was one individual who put a 700 red head, WITH TRIPLE PIPES into a nytro. The sled may not have a head light but it is mechanically sound and i could only imagine it being a blast to ride. I will attempt to find the link and post here for you.
