Help with some clutching

I have a 2001 srx, 4.5g rivits in both holes of the stock weights, stock primary spring, green secondary, and a advantage edge G helix supposedly 54/46. Gearing is 23/39 vs 23/38 stock, because of the reverse I added. Sled seems to pull well but doesn't reach 8500 rpm, it shoots up to 8000 and then climbed to 8250.
It also doesn't have a great top speed, pulls to 140kph and then climbes to 150, 155 max.

Also, clutches are warm to touch, primary is in excellent shape, secondary sliding sheave bushing could probly be replaced. But otherwise clutches are in great shape. Track is a 1" kimpex with 144 studs

Don't know what twist you have on that green spring but you could try stock (red) spring @ 100-110 twist to gain some topend.
I also would add a engagement shim to get rpm's right, or lightning weight's a tad. But shim is easyer/faster to try..
 
Sorry forgot to mention the wrap, it's at 80. Do engagement ships change peak rpm too?

Yep they do, by adding shims you'r increasing spring tension all the way. Don't wrap that green spring anymore.. I think it's already holding you back on topend?
Try red @110 then, you should gain some topend if you can hold on to belt?
 
I don't have the stock spring, I have a few other springs but would have to check to see what they are. Should I get red spring?
Or should I ad an engagement ship or two ad wrap the green at 70?

Oh, i guess it's hard to try it then.. Just add shim (2-3mm.) then, and try it with both 70 and 80 twist to se what you like best.
Don't want you to spend money in a red spring if it don't work for ya.. i mean that's a pretty steep helix so maybe you will slip the belt with it?
 
I think that advant-edge helixes are not what they say, actually higher. remember turk saying 4 degrees off. which your 54/46 could be 58/50. that could be your issue not 100% maybe someone else will chime in. also if your using mr.vipers recipe he uses a Dalton 54/46
 
It's an advantage edge G helix, in the aftermarket helix thread someone said they saw on the 4 stroke side it measures like a 54/46? Not sure though. And I don't think the belt is slipping because the clutches are warm to touch, they don't get hot at all.
Thanks for the tips, I'll mess around with some shims and different wraps and see what happens.

For sure your helix is steeper/more agressive than a dalton 54/46. But you should be able to get it work good anyway.
You'r close already, only need to pic up about 200rpm.. But that finishangle may get it hard to find a good backshift vs. topspeed balance?
 
So I cut a sliver of PVC pipe for a shim, just guessed the size and it turned out to be perfect. Now it hits perfect rpm pulls like a freight train all the way to 140-150kph top speed is about 160. Wouldn't mind a little more top speed but it seems to run really strong set up like this. Thanks for the help guys

Nice job, have fun! And try to get a red spring if you can, bet it will raise your topspeed some..? But maybe it's more fun corner to corner with current setup?
 
Care to explain the shimming process to gain engagement? I just put a new clutch setup (old mr.viper setup) in my 98 and i have same or lower engagement and lost rpm up top. Can I just shim the engagement to pick up rpm?

what parts did you put in your sled??, theres obviously a discrepency somewhere if your low on rpm(mismatched parts)so youd need to list what you changed in order to get you where you need to be.
 
I used 8dn-20 primary weights, 4.5 weights in both holes, 51/43 helix (sourced from pioneer performance), y/s/y primary spring, green secondary spring set at 70.

Should also add that I live in flat farm land central so most of my riding is ditch banging my way from one wide open field to the next, lots of drag race style runs racing other sleds.

Stock setup I could easily drive past a friends skidoo rotax 700 on the top end, after today's clutch mods he put a effortless 15-20ft lead on me
 
if your low on rpm then you have 1 of 2 things, 1.) your helix isnt a 51/43, as a 43 finish will add rpm not take away rpm

2.) or the primary spring is weak, as the primary spring is 35/118kg, but using 8dn 20 weights it should pull rpm if its fresh. you will have lower engagement speed with that rx1 clutch spring because of its 35kg start, so you could cut a peice of schedule 40 2 inch pipe to a thickness of .125" and try that.
Another thing is the 98-99 srx doesnt have as much hp as the 2000-02 does so you may need to swap to a yellow/white/yellow primary spring to make that work.

you want 8300rpm on that sled, where are your rpms at?
 
All parts I installed were brand new Yamaha parts except the billet helix I bought off pioneer. My rpm are hiding under my engine I'm assuming that I need to fix rub through since fuel gauge and tach quit. If you have a better setup altogether let me know, I own a high performance Diesel shop but am new to modifing snowmobiles, so if there's a better setup I need to try, I'm game, just want to go fast
 
ya, need to fix the harness so we have something to go off of, without knowing the rpm, we are unable to tune it in. do a search on the harness repair, pretty straight forward repair.

personally i would use a yell/white/yellow spring in a 98-99 srx.
