I have a 97 v max 700 when first starting off after its been sitting and cooled down if you don't take it easy on the throttle the belt will slip and if you try to accelerate hard you will hear some awful grinding noises but once driven for 5 -10 min it works good let it sit for half hour to a hour and back to slipping

How old is the belt? Any glazing on it? Scotchbrite used on the pulley surfaces might help too. Our do you think it's literally internal on the clutches and not belt related?
My 97 6oo primary needed new pins bushings and such this year. It was acting weird when cold too, but that's all gone now.

Check your secondary mine used to do that until I replaced the bushings.
