fuel mileage confusion on 600 triple vs 700 triple

Does anyone have any input on why my 2000 sxr700 gets better mileage than my 2003 vmax 600 triple? I noticed it runs a higher rpm. I generally put about 2 1/2 more gallons at fuel stops in comparison to the 700. Didn't know if anyone had suggestions for maybe a different spring, clutching, etc. I thought the 600 would sip the gas as well. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!
 
I believe they are geared differently. Not sure but might have a 20 or 21 on top. Have to check the parts look up to be sure.
 
might have to look at your clutches. My sister in law had the same issue. My brother in law changed the clutching in it and it is bang on at 8500. Not sure what he did but good improvement. Don't know about MPG yet.
 
I just installed a Bender clutch kit on my V-Max 600. It brought the RPM's down 1000 which was actually too much (I was originally hitting 9,000+ RPM). It needed heavier rivets, just not the 13.9mm ones (Bender offered to send me lighter ones). The kit also included new springs, helix, etc.
 
Thanks. I will look into that. What changes did you notice performance wise? What your saying is I should order the lighter rivets with it right away?

Okay this is what he did. 4.5g in both holes. With a dalton helix. 45 finish. But if you don't have a helix I would do just the tip at 4.5 and try that. Wrap should be 80. That should help out. Totally different machine.
