Hey all,

I'm in the process of installing a 2002 edge skid on my srx. I got the dimensions from http://www.jbshocks.com/edgemount.JPG. I hope they are correct. I have read that I should have went back a 1/2" more from the drive shaft. I did not see that info until I had already made the front brackets and installed them. They are a little closer to the steering loop then I would have liked. My mounting locations look similar to Johnnysrx's pictures in his write up. I made my brackets out of 3/16" steel stock. I couldn't find alum. stock that size.

I need some information on the 2002 edge rear setup. I can't seem to find much info on stock settings for this particular skid. I have info on 2001 and 2003 but they are a little different style than the 2002. I'm waiting on the front torque arm shaft I had to order bolt was broke off inside it. Hopefully it will be here today so I can make some progress tonight.

Here are the pics of what I have so far.101_0611.jpg

My shaft just showed up so hopefully I can get this together tonight. I will take more pictures as I go Thanks to all who posted the info on doing these swaps.

You may want to drop the skid a bit more because when fully bottomed the suspension will go up in tunnel and running boards will hit. My setup with measurements

hey Devinzz,

So you went back the extra 1/2" from the jbshocks and down about 1/2" on the holes also. to 9 inches back instead of the 8+9/16" and 6" down instead of the 5+3/8" . Your saying that my running boards are going to hit the ground when fully compressed or is it going to hit inside of the tunnel? Also on your front bracket you made did you have to cut some of the original tunnel reinforcement back to get it lower I cant tell in pics. I think I would have to to have any meat left in bracket think it would put me on the edge of plate pretty much.
Thanks,
PH

The running boards will hit the ground on a hard landings (many people havent reported this issue much but with the springs and shock off you can move the skid through its stroke and check for yourself.) I didnt have to trim the tunnel support, there was still enough of the bracket below the mount hole and the majority of the force will be up and forward. I moved it back to 9" to make clearance for my extrovert drivers.

Heres a pic of mine fully compressed. There is only a small amount of clearance near the back of the running boardsimage.jpg

Thanks Man,

I will have to try it with the shock and springs off the skid see how it looks. I'm not sure if I will move it yet I hate to drill out all the rivets and put more holes in the tunnel. I have to pull the skid at some point and put the new hyfax on anyway so I'll check it. Right now it sets about 14 inches off the ground to back of heat exchanger with no weight. And about 9+1/2" to ground with me standing on the bumper pushing down from ceiling. Couldn't get the best measurement this way cause my little minion cant read a tape yet lol

Wish I had some snow to at least give it a test run.
Thanks again,

More of pics of what I've done so far.

Hey all,

I have the skid installed now. This is what its looking like so far.

Ratchet strap to compress rear mount I recommend using two of these and get it close to the measurement before putting in tunnel. Think it would be a lot easier.

Not sure if there is a special tool to hold the rear collar on rear mount to tighten bolt down. I tried to make something up it sorta worked.

Whats easier than the ratchet straps is to unhook both springs from the little rollers they sit in. That way theres no tension on the skid while trying to mount. I used a 1 1/8" wrench that was ground down to stop the mounting bolts from spining. I know how you feel about drilling holes in the tunnel. I had a bunch from when i added drop brackets to the pro action

I will try the spring thing next time I pull the skid. Will have to look for a cheap wrench to grind down those collars are a pain to get to.
Thanks

I'm very thankful for all the great info here. My sled is a 99 SRX, I had the tip of the stock skid break and destroyed the track as well. So I picked up a ripsaw track and 02 Edge skid while I was negotaiting for a decent price. Now's the hard part, getting it back to riding condition.

So reading this and other posts I'm thinking I'll go with the 9 inch setback from the drive shaft and the the 6 inch drop from the top of the tunnel for both front and rear. Is that the right approach? The rear hole would be nice to include the stock outside support. I didn't catch what the distance was from the original rear hole to the new mount spot for the edge skid but I understand that's 6 inches from top of tunnel.

Any advice from other's experiences would be gladly taken.
