Attack, Vari-Flow or Dial-a-Jet

I've read that variflow (EDIT: Supposed to be Tempaflow) can lean out your mixture when you have stopped for a break, and then start again.
Vari-flow isn't on the market anymore, and I don't know why. I would first try these out on a dcs equipped sled. I think mine worked good, I had other issues that triggered the dcs light.

I think that is the tempaflow you are talking about Norwegian, I heard the same thing about them.

I've had a vari flo on my sled since new and never had a problem with it. They quit making it when they came out with the attac system which automatically adjusts your jetting instead of manually like the vari flos. You would probably have problems finding one but they do pop up now and then. The attac system is better anyways.

Couple Bucks, the way the vari flos work is I have my normal jets in the carbs. There are 5 different setting adjustments on the variflos that lean it out more each time you go up. If you disconnected it or if they stopped working you would go back to your normal jetting. Guys usually put these systems on for going to the mountains where you have huge altitude changes, but there is a lot of times where I've jetted 2 sizes leaner with them during days when for example you start out in the morning at -15c and end up riding in +5c weather in the afternoon. I have a parometer on my sled that shows what exhaust temps I'm running at and give me an idea where my jetting is at. I try to keep it around 1200 f. From what I understand about the attac system you probably wouldn't even need a parometer because it would automatically adjust for you.
 
Ran a Tempaflow for over 10,000 miles on my Viper. Never had any issues. Just remember to not to pin it right after stopping for a break. Need to let the underhood temp drop a little. I installed mine using the install shown in the Tech section. Ran perfect in Manitoba at -35, and in the UP in the spring at 45.
 
So when your stopped, the Variflow/Tempflow gets warmer because there is no air flowing through the hood. Subsequently, it reduces fuel flow causing a lean condition. Is this pretty accurate?
 
I did call Holtzman up and he said they were cleaning out a warehouse of theirs. Ended up finding a box (15+) of Variflows. $169 while they last.
Is there any success stories of anyone of them on a twin? We all know how finicky they are. I'm kinda thinking that a Variflow would be better on a twin for if/when you want to run on the richer side. I wouldn't be able to do that with a Tempaflow. I would have a concern if it was a triple.

I had a few issues with the Tempa flow on my SRX ,re burndowns,but that was before I found out about the finicky nature of them when the sled it is mounted on is stopped for a short period of time and then run before everything cools down evenly.That being said it does what it advertised to do and that was keep the jetting constant through temperature fluctuations,but if your looking at a Variflow which is manual then I'd say you should be ok.Having manual control would take the burndown danger out of the equation,I would think,so long as you remembered to set the adjuster to neutral,or whatever it is,when you stop and shut the sled off.

Yes it was. Sounds like the ones Hartman found that you said you were going to pick up. Here's a couple pics... one of the variflos I have mounted in my dash and one of the parometer I have mounted beside the speedo.

Note: I took these pics a couple years ago right after I pulled the sled out of storage from the quanset.... I HAVE cleaned it since then! lol

Yes, it is a single on the pto pipe mounted 6 inches away from the front of the cylinder where you bolt on the pipe flange. I had this all installed by the Yammy dealer in Nov/98, according to my plugs it seems like they set it the correct distance away from the cylinder to read an accurate temperature. But I'm not sure where you would mount yours... do you have pipes? Or an exhaust manifold? If it is a manifold I'm not sure exactly where you should mount it
 
It'll be going on a single piped twin. I would assume to put each bung right before it goes into one. It'll be a dual EGT. Just haven't decided which one. Looking for a dual EGT w/ a single AFR guage.
 
There will probably be instructions that come with it, or your local sled shop should be able to tell you where to mount the probes
