Looking for info on 77 SRX original front axel and drives

My 77 SRX spent most of its life drag racing and had a cleated track and a drive system similar to a 75 GPX when I bought it years ago. The Yamaha microfiche shows a rubber molded track on the 77. Did the 77 ever come with a cleated track?
 
Thanks. Do you know if the drive wheels were internal or toothed sprocket type like the GPX?

The sled has not been raced for several years but it was twisting and pulling so hard to the left that I had to ride it like an oval racer going the wrong way around in order to keep from crossing the center line. That was the last year it was allowed to run in open class due to its age and I wasn't interested in vintage class at the time so it's been parked. I assume cleated tracks are now banned and I would have to change over to a 78 style track and drive if I want put it back on the track for vintage racing in future. Hopefully I can keep the original suspension.
 
not like gpx. more like 440 exciter. two outer wheels and two inner drive cogs. yes, cleats are a thing of the past. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
76-77 srx had cleated track 3.29 pitch with 12 tooth internal drivers to convert to rubber you need a 116''track rom a exciter phazer 84-89 ss440 81-85 or srx from 78-80 ........and a drive shaft from a 78-80 srx or EX 340-440 76-81 ....and 7.5'' rear wheels here is my 77 converted to rubber009.jpg

I have a few 116" tracks from my 81 SS440's which I can use. I mat also have a shaft from an 81 SRX which could be machined if necessary. What was the maximum length or picks you were able to use with the rubber track? If the clearances are similar to the SS440 I an guessing .750 -.850. I always ran 1" black daggers with the cleated track and they seem to really hook up well but I had to watch the track tension closely to minimize the tunnel damage.
 
I run 1'' Polaris aluminum tunnel protectors and largest stud you should go is .875 to keep tunnel damage to a minimum that is for t-nut studs like I run ....I know a few guys that run 1'' push threw ...but their tunnels are chewed up pretty good in the front
 
Thanks for the help. Picked up a complete front axel with sprockets for a 79 SRX for $25 so I can get started on the conversion. Great looking sled by the way. I that an original chassie? Not sure mine will ever look that polished again.
 
most sleds can be brought back and polished like mine the build of the sled is posted in the working log section 440X summer contest ...this not a real 77 I hand built this sled from a few other machines bulkhead is a 79 srx and tunnel is a 76 exciter .....
