Hey All, I just wanted to properly introduce myself as a new member of TotallYamaha. I have been lurking for a little while and have learned alot about these sleds and from just reading about how reliable and nice Yamaha sleds are and ride , I Finally Got One!! I recently picked up a 1999 SX600 with the redhead, and i can already tell that I am going to like it. It feels very comfortable and after riding my buddies SXR700 a few times last year, I knew that these were nice sleds that ride great in trails. Im genuinely excited to ride this beast around this winter!! :sled2:

I picked up my sled at a decent used price and I am currently doing some pre season maintenance to get it ready for this upcoming winter. Is there anything in particular that I should take into consideration while working on these sleds as far as Do's and Do Not's? I have all of the carbs off currently and I have removed the float bowls and was going through them when I noticed something odd,,,

The center carburetor seems to be missing what could be described as a brass "pick up?" tube that is kitty corner to the pilot jet? The Mag and PTO side carbs have them,, the center carb does not... which i find odd. But I am New to working on Yamaha sleds and triples in general. I am trying to figure out how to upload photos, but havent figured it out completely yet. I just wanted to know if this is normal for these triple carb setups?

I would like to have it all good to go before the first snow flies! Last year was such a blast! I hoping that this year will be the same or much better snow wise as last year, and Im excited to actually have a sled with some decent power compared to my old fan cooled sled,,
Thank You for any suggestions or input. ;)!

Welcome! I can't give you any advice, but I picked up 2 sxr700's over the last couple of months. Also because of the good things I've heard about the build quality and reliability.
Didn't want to spend too much because I probably won't do more than 500 miles per year, but still wanted something I'd feel safe taking into the woods.
Hopefully they'll treat us well!
Good luck!

I Think that you will enjoy the sleds you bought. They ride so nicely and handle really well. they are snappy motors too! they get up and move pretty quick!
I rode my buddies srx700 a few times and it was one of the best handling and comfortable sled i have ever been on. I'm not into jumping them or anything like that, I just enjoy trail riding and teraing it up on the ice.

welcome to the site!

i have no idea what that part is actually called but i would think it would be the same on all 3 carbs.

sx600r are a pretty good sled once you do some clutching as they where a bit of a dog stock.

Thanks for the input. It would seem to me like all 3 carbs should be identical,,, and it would seem like without that "pick up tube" installed, I dont see how that particular circuit could even draw fuel in because the pick up tube is a good 1/2 inch below where the emulsion tube pick up is and is above the float level,,,

The more i tear into this sled, the more bogus stuff i find done half assed by the previous owner. I am just trying to go through it and get everything good before winter. :sled1:

I did some tinkering around and I discovered that the brass pick up tube is for the enrichment "choke" circuit in the carb. Theoretically, I could've ran these carbs, but I found a used set of carbs locally for a great price so i grabbed them. It's is nice now to have these as back up carbs for parts and whatnot.

But I did a thorough clean and tune on the new set of carbs, did a couple of other odds and ends while the sled was apart and put it all back together. It seems to run really good so I'm looking forward to rippin' it up!! I still need to find a track for it still though because mine is pretty whomped out.

That is indeed the pick up for fuel delivery to the choke circuit. It is meant to pick up fuel from the bottom of the bowl. Without it you may not have had choke enrichment depending on the level of the fuel in the bowl (you still had the inner tube but it doesn't go all the way to the bottom).

I would check to see if the nozzles, main and pilot jetting is correct in the new rack you used. If not, transfer them from the old rack. While you're looking for a new track, Id suggest pulling the skid and going through it (search "tighten yours" by BTV) and have it ready to install when installing the new track. If unsure of the condition of the shocks, I'd suggest sending them out for an over-haul.

Welcome to TY!!
