Wider Ski Question??

I have an 04 Viper and looking to get more float. The stock ski's are 5" wide, what size have other people gone to and how much luck did you have with them?
 
If shes just a short track no more than 7" wide. Id recommend c&n, slydog, slp, or curve skis. These ive tried at some point in time and liked.
 
I use a c and a rzr ski. Decent off trail and stick on trails. Like you're on train tracks. Most aftermarket skis are better than stock. I should add, do not, DO NOT buy yamaha mountain skis. They are garbage and dangerous on the trails.
 
I have a 136" x 1.5" track extension kit on it and do all my riding in off trails in rangeley, ME. I know its not a great sled for what I do but looking to get another yr or two out of mine til I can upgrade to a longer track sled.

Chonzo, with that much track and the off trail reference, i would reccomend the yamaha mountain skis with the shim mod from the tec pages. brother ran that combo for 5 years on his viper with no problems. kept the front end up off trail and dug through the loose stuff on the trails to bite on our trails here. not everything is bolt on and go, we took at least a season to get his set close to perfect and tweaked/tuned it every season untill he sold the sled.
 
Ive got the mountain skis on a 136" rx warrior with dually carbides. Little bit to much bite on hard pack but a all around ski. Not sure why snopro says not to buy though?
 
Thanks guys, I'm assuming snopro is saying that because they aren't very good for trail riding is my guess. But I'm not worried abou that because I really only use the trails to get to off trail areas.
 
I've ran C&A, SLP Powder Pro, stock skis, and Yamaha Mountain Skis. I am not a fan of C&A they dove in powder to easily. Powder Pros were awesome except they seemed to feel different to balance while carving, stock skis well yeah.... But the Yamaha mountain skis... I have had awesome luck with them. They float great, balance nice, and no problem flying down the trails. I currently run a 6" carbide on mine.

Reasoning behind my comment, with my experience of the mtn ski they were extremely hard to steer on hard pack. Meaning steering effort. They darted a lot as well. I have my toe out adjusted per yamaha specs. Off trail in some snow conditions the skis dip under the snow rather than staying on top. This was in late spring conditions off trail,happened to go over the bars twice due to this lol. No my skis were not shimmed, this May have helped with on trail handling characteristics.
 
yup, from what you are saying for the hard pack, you needed the shim. as to the off trail, i did that with my curves a few times at the end of the season as well.
